Hello All,

The Gnomon Workshop has just released my Introduction to ZBrush DVD (http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/rki01.html). The first in a series of 7 planned DVDs!

It is over 7.5 hours long and contains 33 different chapters. Each chapter is between ten and twenty minutes long for easy digestion.

The tutorial is based off the curriculum I developed for training at companies such as ILM, EA and Ubisoft. It represents all the effort I have put into teaching ZBrush to beginners over the years.

It covers the following:

Get Sculpting in 5 Minutes
Sculpting Fundamentals
Review
Sculpting Details
Review
Masks
Documents verse Tools
Sculpting Workflow with Clay Brush
Understanding Brushes
Polygroups and SubTools
Polygroups
Subtools
Transpose
ZSpheres
ZSphere Quadraped
ZSphere Hands
Posing Your Model
Transpose Master
MatCap Materials
Material Basics
Managing Materials
Lighting
Rendering
PolyPainting Essentials
PolyPainting Multiple Objects
PolyPainting with Cavity
ZAppLink Part 1
ZAppLink Part 2
Exporting PolyPainting
Using ZMapper Primer
Displacement Maps Primer
Turntables
Topology Primer

Currently, I am also planning for an Intermediate ZBrush DVD and an Advanced ZBrush DVD. The other ones will have to remain a mystery for now. After doing this first DVD, I don't think I could ever finish talking about ZBrush!

Happy ZBrushing,

Ryan

I just picked this up through Gnomon....Digital Download.

I'm only on chapter 4.... but I'll post some thoughts after I get through it.

So far though it's been very helpful for me.....as I'm totally new to ZBrush.

Hi Ryan,

The minute I saw this available I bought via the Digital Download version. Thanks, very good, enjoying your lessons, I for one would highly recommend, learning lots.

A few thoughts about stuff that would be interesting to include at some point:

1. Modelling / Sculpting a mesh with express purpose of export for animation - a focus on animation

2. Indept look at Zmapper and Blend Shapes, best practice for export and use in animation in another app.

3. Export of multiple displacement maps for use in animation - how to best use exported maps for realistic animation of complex geometry created via disp maps.

4. Long shot - but some sort of focus on exporting ZB models / maps for use in Blender. Why Blender? - well it is free, so rather than Maya ( costs 1000's ) - their is some chance that students could grab and fully use Blender, hence fully follow through a lesson to the end without an expensive app to consider / or crippled demo. This would be very focused, just using specific parts of Blender only that apply here. At least the principles can be practiced by all without any restrictions!

Cheers
Aidan

In the DVD's listings, I see where it says Zmapper.

Does that apply to Mac Users?

I thought there were no longer a Zmapper Utility or is it that it hasn't been developed for Mac users yet?
