View Full Version : Vehicle: Racecar inspired by Audi's TT
-CCFly- 06-11-2003, 10:24 PM hi there,
startet doing this about 6 days ago and just thought to ask you for some crits and comments on my work.
I guess there's not much left of the Original Audi TT ;)

how do you get into it? There are no doors, no seams either. Id work on the body some more aswell, refine it a bit.

still no door, but some other improvements

Good model, but make doors please and i think there is too much reflection on your material! ;)

Hmm, you've got a good modeling skills to model this complicated figure :)
However I don't like the rear of this car.
Not technically, but I just don't like the way it looks now
But nice work indeed, keep it coming! :scream:
yeah definitely add doors.. the seams will help. also keep working on that car paint it's way too reflective the way it is now. your wheels also have no clearance.. looks like they might even touch the wells.
also it's as if the car body and the windows/winshield are made from the same piece. they flow right into each other in places.
the tailights arent believable yet.. and it looks as if the entire inside of the car is in glass. try giving the glass thickness.. that should get rid of that effect.
you should also post an untextured version so we can check out the bodywork a little better.
keep it coming.

thanks for your comment d8ed.
But what do u mean with "wells" ? my english isn't that good :hmm:
I'll try to improve the things you mentioned.

I like the untextured version best. Try puting Viper like textures on it... the stripes in the middle.

Modeling-great, material-could be better! ;)

looking really nice, I like the design, however, imo the outer ends of the front bumper should be curved to, it doesn't match that well with the rest of the car. Dunno, try rounding it of, or at least a bit more curved. Kinda reminds me of the peugeot 206 wrc. (which is a kickass car :D) but this looks more like a racing type of car, which means, lots of aerodynamics. I dig the air-intakes! :D
anyway, it's a kickass model
ahh.. wheel wells is where the wheel is. i'm basically saying there's very little room above the wheels for the suspension to function and for the wheels to be able to turn. maybe the wheels are slightly too big.
good good progress on the last set of renders. the untextured version definitely looks better. forget about texturing this thing until you're done with all the detail.. it's distracting.
two things i'd focus on. the rear window and the spoiler.
the bars between the rear windshield and the little backseat windows are bent and weak looking. and the spoiler is the same. looks as if it's ready to break off.
also all your windows should get tucked into the car a little bit more.
and when you're ready.. post a rear view =)

I don't think the material lives up to the quality of the model :)
Here are a few suggestions for the model, I hope the image speaks for itself;

where that "unpretty" weld is, I would make a crease (hard line) that goes across the front of the car, the front seems to lack crisp lines and looks a bit odd to me.
Keep it up!
-CCFly-
06-22-2003, 11:42 AM
tried to improve that "unpretty" weld.
http://www.gfx-scene.de/attachment/20030621112852.jpg
Hmm.. How about deleting the weld, and just make it all smooth from the lights down. :)
-CCFly-
06-22-2003, 02:35 PM
that's the way it was before.
No no.. Looky:
http://www.cgtalk.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=665961
I mean make it all smooth, where the light ends there's a weird weld.

that's a much much much better spoiler. and i like the wheels although they might have a few too many spokes =)
i'd start to work on tightening up the seams between the body and the windows. try to get it crisp and tight.
great progress.

i know, but i don't really know how to create a realistic-looking car-lacquer.
I'm gratefully for any tips on creating it.

looks much better as a convertible. i'd add a little more work and maybe some more detail to the thing right behind the seats where the folding top would be. also on the body area right around the rear wheels.. it might be a bit too sharp. i'd consider smoothing it out a bit.
for the thing behind the seats.. consider doing a racing style hump that goes behind the driver's head. not sure what they're called..

your model just keeps looking better and better....well done.
Yeah I agree it needs some sort of rollcage behind the seats to protect the occupants in case of a roll :P

added these race style humps.

Hi,
like said the one without the roof is much better - now i just miss some details on the rear!
come on .. it becomes great!
and the material.. try to simulate without hdri, just with an cylinderlight it helped me much with the materials.

took me more than 3 hours
http://mitglied.lycos.de/KaosGod/models/racecar/racecar_90.jpg
lookin good. although i'd suggest you dont make the seats and the partition thing behind the seats reflective.
3 hours and your antialiasing settings need to go up still.. ouch.
also if the car is being lit by all sides like this, the shadow generated below it wont be so sharp and crisp. and it would be lit with some blue light as well.
is your floor reflective? i only ask because of that reflection looking thing on the bottom right. looks like it's not reflecting the glow quite right.
think about depth of field blur so that the environment doesnt overpower the car. you can always render the environment with the shadow minus the car and blur that and then render the car and composite.
much much much better than your previous textured attempts.
headlights need materials! otherwise, great modeling, try rendering it with HDRi.

that last render ist pretty good... although i would take a different ground material (one which doesn't represent 3d objects (stones) - they are hard to get right, use a road or flat surface instead)
modeling looks great
keep it up,
