View Full Version : fluorescent lights help
max_5 06-11-2003, 09:52 PM I'm creating a rendering of a room that is mainly lit with fluorescent lights and suddenly realized that I don't know how to make them properly. They are the type with a clear plastic covering over them (not naked bulbs). I use 3d max 5 and have Brazil.
Any help on making fluorescent bulbs is welcome.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply RoarK, that may be the best way to do it. I still wonder how I could do it with GI though.

Make the tube for the light, with a material that is white with 100% self-illumination. and then exclude it from any lighting calcs., by right-clicking on it and going to properties-->adv. lighting.
Then use the photometric lights (linear free or target) and just set up the light the way you want it. And don't forget to turn on the radiosity plug-in.
And if you are not get the results that you want then you need to use the subdivision settings.
