View Full Version : car decals how to?
sebek27 06-11-2003, 06:55 PM when modeling cars, do you use the software you modeled the car in to create the insignia and the name of the car that shows on the back of it ? but those are using it's own type of typeface so how is it really done ? i was thinking in Illustrator then imported into your 3d app am i wrong?

Great free logo site (http://www.logo.nino.ru/main/?id=35928&query_id=64970&page=1)
I import these vector-based images into PS and convert them to a good sized tiff.
C4D has an option to convert images to splines. I adjust these splines by hand with the same image put as a background (on a plane) behind it.
After all this just put the spline in a extrude nurbs.
Very labor-intensive but you will get very good decals that enable you to take good close-up shots.
Of course the .eps files can be used in several ways (alpha map) to get the decal.

If it's a 2d logo, then just do in photoshop and apply it as a texture. If it's a 3d logo then building it illustrator would work just fine.
You just need to do what ever it takes to get the job done.
