i think the best way is with fur
first you can atach a fur description to all the head, go to the paint attr tools, set the value to 0 and made a flood, now you can paint the areas where you want to have fur.
next you can edit the fur description
made the base color darken than tip color, base ambient color darken than tip ambient color and altmost black, and the tip ambient color darken than base color
set the legth of the fur, but this is only as reference
set the inclination and polar of the fur, for the polar values if you are working with polys is very important the uv mapping, too for the others values.
set the base curl and tip curl
set the base width and tip with
when you have this parameters ok
paint the maps for the length with the attr paint tool
in the details
set the map mult of the length with the value you set in the length attr
and set noise in the length, inclination and polar
select the main ligth to a spot ligth and add the fur shading/shadow attr in the fur menu
set the fur attr of the ligth to depth map and set the values for the ligth shadow
render
there are a lot of more attr in the fur but this is a fast intro-tutorial of fur.
sorry for my english.

Thanx a lot! Ok. I will do this with fur (I'm working with polys) and try it as you say. Thanx again and when I have some results and I won't know what to do next I'll post progress here and ask you for the fast tutorial of that lot of other attr ;) :applause:

Is ther a way i can paint a fur length map in photoshop over my uvs and plug it into the length attrib.?
there seems to be no map icon next to it.
Ive tried susing the paint attrib tool and i cant seem to get the results i want.
I also right clicked on the attrib name, chose create new texture, and plugged in the map, but it still didnt work.
am i missing something here, or is it just not possible.
