Title: The Forest Ancient
Name: Samantha Hogg
Country: United Kingdom
Software:
Artist: Zephyri
Concept: The Forest Ancient
Initially dubbed the Forest Demon by the settlers that first discovered it, thanks to it's extraordinary mating behaviour. Usually a dormant beast, well equipped with tough exterior hide that even the most experienced hunter would be hard pressed to see in it's natural habitat, the only time these huge behemoths move is to engage in the unwieldy act of sex. The females announce their coming into heat by beating their enormous slab like tails against the ground, to which the males respond with a haunting cry, edged with the rustle of the dead fibrous growths that form their camouflage, and then slowly move across the forest, following the echoes.
My entry for Conceptart.org's Creature of the week challenge. The challenge was to create a creature based on a small audio sample which suggested something big and heavy to me, and after a few thumbnails, this creature was born! Done from scratch in Photoshop after doing some silhouette thumbnails.
