Did anyone see that thread popup on SoftimageNet NEWS titled "Open Letter to the European Commissioner for Competition"
I cant seem to get through to SoftimageNet anymore to view it. Am I freaking out or is that too much of a coincidence? Sounded like an interesting thread.

I locked that thread on community.softimage, and after asking gently not to see it propagated around I found and disposed of it here too anyway.
After that of course I started getting asked if I got paid any money for this, because we all know that multinationals pay forum moderators a fortun in untrackable and unmarked gold for such things.

The truth is that that thread wasn't news, wasn't exactly well formulated, proposes to petition to an organ that doesn't deal with the situation at hand, and in general is a shitstorm waiting to happen.
The ECC only deals in hostile takeovers, and this is not hostile, and not a takeover anyway, so that petitioning is a waste of everybody's time, mine in first place.

As for community, yes, it's down. It's probably down because the last couple days saw quite a bit of traffic, and of course this crap always happens on weekends when administration is at a trickle.
Anyway...

Fair enough, just seemed a bit weird that the site was down at the same time.

That was just a coincidence, and people who follow community.softimage should know by now that if and when the database goes tits up, it's usually end of friday (law of murphy) :)
It's worth noting at this point that Avid -still- owns Softimage, and that confirmation of the AD deal will only come next month, since there's a certain amount of approval and bureaucracy to go through, so for the time being everybody can hold the conspiration theories to themselves (not talking about you here Pete) :)

I don't think that thread was meaningful even beyond the good points thE_jacO raised, because as long as AD doesn't buy up C4D, Lightwave, Houdini and Blender, it cannot be considered a monopoly or "unfair" competition. It is a little strange though, no doubt.

As I posted semi-jokingly in another thread, I have a suspicion that AD are locking up the top development brains for their own eeevil purposes... Muahahahahahaha
