Hello all
I currently work on the 9.3.1 version and I need to save a scene and some objects in relative path form so another computer in another country will be able to open it without any problems, so instead of -
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Folder with stuff\scenes\objects\etc

I need this -
Folder with stuff\scenes\objects\etc

Any assistance and info would be greatly appreciated.

You can try:
File>ContentManager
And play around from there.

doesn't it work like that anyway?

Put your objects into an objects folder, scenes in a scenes folder, images in an images folder...as long as all the folders are in the same directory and Lightwave's content directory is set to that directory it will open them. It shouldn't matter where the directory is, I create a directory for every project and switch directories as needed.

...am I misunderstanding what you need to do?

First of all, thank you for the replys...

CtrlAltDel, I've been playing with the content manager and it goes like this:
assigning the directory and failing and/or crashing when I try to affirm the process.

biliousfrog, the "regular" process creates a "absoloute path" which is fine if I work on my computer or the local network, but when I export it elsewhere, and it gets there as binary code it seems, they cant work with a file that is save localy. They need it as a "relative path" meaning the project folder is in the top of the hierarchy...

Things are getting desperate here... :/

umm...oh?

I've never had that issue, essentially Lightwave should look at relative paths. It's the whole reason why the content directory system works. As long as your saved scene uses objects from the objects folder and the objects use images from the images folder, everything will be saved 'relatively'.

The only problem is if you've been using assets that are scattered around your drive and outside of the directory....but even then, it wouldn't stop the client from loading the assets from the correct location. To make things easier you can ensure that all of the assets are being accessed from the content folder ie, load the scene and replace each object and image with the one in the content folder before saving everything.

Are they getting an error saying, 'can't find C:\ Documents and Settings\object XXXX.lwo... Select an alternate file?'

If so, just select the correct file. If it's in the correct folder and they've got the right content directory, all they'll need to do is hit enter twice. If there's loads of files that come up with the error they can just keep their finger on the enter key until everything is loaded.

Yes it did crash on me also the last time i tried, sorry couldn't try it now, but as i remember it, the crash happened after it copied all the object and image files to destined folder, than i just copy the scene file to the new scene folder then opening it, if it complaints about missing files, just find it in the new directory and save the scene file.
