This Shure Beta 58A microphone was originally intended to be an exercise to manipulate wire meshes, I decided to take it a step further and create a professional microphone.

Looks really good. Can you elaborate more on how you modeled the wire mesh? Thanks.
What i basically did was created a CV curve, duplicated it about 30 times, and then created 30 more flowing int he opposite direction and rotated them 90 degrees. when that was done, i created a lattice and a deformer and shaped the curves into a hemisphere, then applied paint effects onto the curves. after that, i transformed the paint effects into polys.
Theres actually a great tutorial on this by Emil3d who talks about deformations. Its not exactly the same, but it helped me and im sure it will help u. heres the link. (i hope u dont mind Emile3d) http://rapidshare.com/files/66181473/Microphon_video.rar.html
Thanks a lot Emile3d, withouth ur link i woulnt have been able to complete this work.
Good luck.

wow look so real, ca u show us the wire?
the model looks good, i would just add some specular to the black cable material, and it looks like you got some blotchiness happenig on the floor from the GI.
Thanks for the crits, I noticed some blotching on the ground from the FG Rays as well, and ill add some specular to the wire, ill update it soon.
