Hi, I received 3 big (millions of poly) object from a client. From Solid Edge software. Its Obj and all the polygons are disconnected. no way to select a part, it just select individual polys... the problem now is I have to apply polygons reduction on that object. The density is 100 time too much and I cant work with it.

here a sample (just a small chunk of the object);

Is there a way XSI could reconnect all adjacent polygons? or could I apply a different poly reduction plugin??

thanks, please save my life!!

Model > Modify > Poly Mesh > Filter Points will merge overlapping points (and thus weld boundaries together).

It is usually better to ask for IGES files than Obj. when they came fom MCAD applications.

We did but we were unable to convert it... The only way we found is the convert IGES files with 3dstudio max but the file is so huge 3ds just crash after 8 hours of converting... Converting to obj directly in Solid Edge was way faster.

I have had problems with IGES too. Our normal path for CAD data is to import into Polytrans and make obj files.

Why do you were unable to convert it inside XSI? crashed too?

I was not aware XSI could import IGES files...
