View Full Version : Second Matte Painting-WIP(C&C Welcomed and Wanted)
ths-acid 10-21-2008, 04:03 AM Hey, this is my second matte painting yet in very, very early stages, and I have a problem. I am not sure where to go from here. I have a big open plain with some mountains in the back and a castle... I am not quite sure where to head from this point on... I was thinking of adding some kind of huge valley where the plain is or some kind of canyon, but I have no idea on how I would accomplish this. So if you guys could, would you mind throwing out a bunch of ideas of what else I could do to not make this image so boring. What could I add, or what should I take away. Thanks
note: dont worry about lighting issues and other problems, I am just trying to get everything layed out for now, I will fix these issues later.

RESIZE your image!
It's taking forever to download, even with broadband...
Also, without seeing it, what is YOUR intent?
What is the mood?
What is the overall "atmosphere?" (Similar to mood, but different)
You have to have some idea of what you are doing. It is not up to us to "throw a bunch of ideas out."

ths-acid Hello again man ..
one thing i really like is that you continue to create more and more work. this is the best thing you can do and best way to learn the art and become good at it. a brotherly advice keep doing stuff like this you will accidentally discover new and uncharted avenue :) good luck.
OK back to art piece hey i do agree with CybrGfx size is too huge man :)
OK love the lighting :) in my opinion its good and balanced and makes sense.
The placement of the architectural structure in the foreground is good. Try adding some fog into the scene.
Few suggestions on how to move on.
1. Try to have nice colored preferably bright beam of light coming out of the tower straight into the sky and make the clouds react to it, both in terms of color (making them dark and heavy) and in form(like giving birth to a hurricane).
and / or
2. Try to replace the arid ground patch in the middle with some kind of abyss formation. like sinister looking crack in the ground.
Lets say you modify the landscape and establish form then consider CybrGfx's advice of establishing mood and atmosphere. Because these two things are like storytellers.
hope this helps :)
