Hi,
What I wonder is how the mech will look
in a realtime game enviroment. The model
is very round and has many little details.
I think it has maybe to many polygons
for a realtime game. What game engine
do you use ?

Is that supposed to look intimidating? Cause it actually looks kind of cute :p
Great modeling, though, it's smoothly done.

And then there were three teams . . . . Sweeet!!
bobtronic --> This is the cinematic part of the challenge, so whatever you see in this section is high polygons dude. If you want to actually see game models, you can find them in the game art challenge section:) Hence, of course this wouldn't work in an actual game:p
Otherwise, Wilson3d & FredSpeaks, It's looking great so far, I am looking forward to seeing your progress. However, please, don't remove all your previous images. People like to see others progress, not just the final version:thumbsup:
Keep em coming ~

Wow were getting some chatter. That sure makes it all more fun. Thanks for the comments.
Bobtronic-as mentioned this is for what would be a cinematic cut scene.
TimothyD-yea it does have a high cute factor. Even once all the guns are on it will probably look cute with a bunch of guns:) As long as the design looks interesting and like it would be fun to play.
Apt pupil-Yea it is fun to look at all the progress. I just thought we were getting update crazy. Sure we will leave them all.
Thanks again for all your comments.

Sounds and looks cool so far!!
Looking forward to how this progresses.
Are you doing just the one race for the challenge?
FredSpeaks
06-14-2003, 07:08 PM
Well, there will be another vanquished race shown in the scene. Parts scattered and crushed int the wake of the gremlins.
Hope to have some more images up tomorrow.

Hi. Here is the latest version. We have been busy modeling and are almost finished. So far we are on track with our timeline. We have texture! Still just a little modeling to do. Some things I am not sure about are the yellow in the eyes and I think the boarder around the eyes and nose looks to round now that it is textured. What do you think? We would love to get some feedback to help make this a better piece. C and C welcome and appreciated.

Wilson, you are making me look bad. I need to finish up some texturing as well and get it posted.
It's a team effort, and you are making me feel like i am slacking. You must not sleep at all.

Overall it's fine work.Any thoughts on my part that can be of help would be to add something the Feet, they are a little too blocky.
Perhaps curve them some, give them a more angular look,an added toe or extra gizmo to add some spice.
The eyes might also have a better overall appearance by giving them actual "Organic eyes",It will I think add warmth and that something extra that sets your creation apart from other such creations.
However don't get me wrong,in an overall thought of your work it is very good,I do like the look and feel.It just to me needs more spice, not much mind you,but something still a bit more to get it to be a really memmorable Icon.
Maybe something funny ,a object that dangles from around it's neck.a weapon of Earthworm Jim calibur humor.
Anyways thes are my quick thoughts, just trying to help a litttle if possible,in my short time for thoughts,I also have my own full plate to deal with.
;)
OK,I am looking forward to any more up-dates,I know you have another ace up your sleeves to get this creation to yet another level.

akocan-Thank you very much. Its good to hear some encouragement.
Virtuoso-Thanks a lot. Great points. FredSpeaks and I agreed and did some fine tuning. We went back to square one. The plot. I am excited about this new original one that we now have. This gave us more room for the character and added more personality to him. FredSpeaks will be posting the update.
On to the Update!
Please take time to read the new plot. Hey we actually have a story line.
Thanks. C and C welcome and appreciated.
The Scalene Tribesman
Scalene= Having sides and angles unequal-of a triangle.
Tribesman= A member of a tribe.
Tribe= A social group comprising of families, clans, or generations.
Gremlin= 1.An imaginary gnomelike creature to whom mechanical problems, especially in aircraft, are attributed
2.A maker of mischief.
Story
You have wondered about the Bermuda Triangle. Yes everyone has. It is the greatest modern mystery of our “understood” world. It is a region of the Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda, Miami, Florida, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Here disappearances of ships and planes not only continue but continue to defy explanation.
Your name is Cashin Stafford and you are following your fathers footsteps working with a crew of eight on an oil tanker. You have been working on tankers for 8 of the 24 years of your life and are very comfortable on the sea. Once you heard about this destination though you were immediately a child again. Hearing the stories your father had told you. This destination was Lajes in Axores. Leaving from the east cost of the united states you realized you would be traveling through the Bermuda Triangle.
The voyage was off to a great start and phrases like “sailor tales” started to go through your head. Perhaps your father was just telling old stories of the sea to get you to sleep. That is when you realized your compass was spinning in circles so fast the needle was a blur. Blue lightning was tearing though the sky and what looked like an old World War Two plane was flying over head. It was not just an old plane though. It had all kinds of miscellaneous pieces attached to it. Like someone had taken pieces from all kinds of planes over the last sixty years and made them into a single aircraft. The tanker started to spin! You started getting dizzy and as you looked at your compass you wondered “are we slowing down or am I spinning so fast I am catching up with the compass”.
When you wake you realize you laying under debris on the deck of the tanker. You can only see a little light in front of you. Almost pinned you start to crawl toward the light. Then you hear voices. You have never heard voices like these before.
“Salvage everything!” something screams. Are these people the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle?
Game Play
You are stranded on a mysterious island in the Bermuda Triangle. A tribe of gremlins have been here for longer then you can tell. Pirate ships are one hint they have been have been the answer to all the disappearances over the centuries. Your mission is to first get off the boat with out being captured or killed. The gremlins have been building new types of armor with vehicles, mechas and weapons out of the scraps for long enough to master a new trait of scavenging. Their resourcefulness is amazing. You have to find scraps to build your own mecha or vehicle to fight them with. Start out small sneaking around until you feel you have enough power to take a gremlin on head to head. Depending on what part of the island you travel will determine what you will find. You also need to find gremlin manuals on their technological breakthroughs of patchwork technology to combine some items. Each time you play you can build a different mecha. Some pieces are more compatible then others. You will build your way up to a powerful mecha or vehicle by defeating small tribes. Each time seeing what you can add to your own arsenal. What can I do with this motorcycle engine and a mortar? Finally working your way up to the main gremlin base. The secret to the Bermuda Triangle! What was the blue lightning from? Will their be something large enough in the base to get you off this island?

Here is a bit of an update. After some brainstorming the game story changed a bit, and as a result the modeled eyes are gone. The mecha shown now shows better the gremlins scavaging the wreckages for parts. Obviously the maiin body has been taken from an aircraft. I think the pinup/nose art girl is a nice touch... the gremlins changed the paint abit to reflect their taste in women. ;)

Pretty funky design you got going here. I like the organic nature of the mech, it has that 'robota' feel about it.
I think the eyes and teeth could do with some more work to bring them out. Maybe give them more contrasting colours. I'm guessing your going for that WWII fighterplane paintjob with the sharks teeth motif.
Keep at it.
FredSpeaks

Ionized, you are right; we are going for the WWII tiger sark look, also the "face" does need to pop a bit more. a small update. the pinup girl has been toned down, the face cranked up, and the feet textured.

Cool as i said before...
Good modeling
The model looks over defined, but I'd say thats the style your going for, but the texture doesn't ad to it (too ditry).... perhaps my addiction to clean surface....
Nice work though.
Please give me a zoom on the pilot!!!!

Thanks for the sketch Bodini, I now understand what direction you are heading with the textures. We are gonna stick with the dirty, grimmy looks. His mech is made from 50 year old aircraft parts, so it is will be dirty and dinged up.
