View Full Version : Character WIP
ingramworks 06-10-2003, 04:32 PM Well, I'm pretty new to CGI and very new to Lightwave, but thought I'd share the progress of this little character that I'm using as a learning project. I'll post up the concept sketch and some wireframes later in the day (once I have them). Any critiques are welcomed :)

like the simple design, have any color/bump schemes thought of yet?
According to your concept...the mouth needs to continue around the the head a little more in the model...other than that it looks good...won't be picking up anything though:shrug:

Eman597: I'm thinking of a sort of desert-coloured reptile skin. Not too strong but enough to see the scaling and weathering. Since I've never textured in lightwave before, or any professional-class 3D package before, I hope I can achieve wat's in my head.
Remi: Yep, as I was building the model I was having some difficulties getting the mouth to swoop back like the image, so I shortened it. I'll be revisiting that part to move it more like I had originally wanted it. The mouth has an interior, so that's where most of my troubles have been.

Here's an update:

The model is pretty well finished. Although not completely what I was first shooting for, I learned a lot from building it, like ways to better plan ahead when modeling and better ways to use the tools in LW to speed things up. I'll take what I've learned here and move onto working on a new model, hopefully with better and cleaner results.
Next is to use this guy to learn more about texturing, then it's time to dive into animation (that'll keep me up for a couple of days :p).
Any comments are welcomed
I like this guy alot...I think it would add so much to him if you gave him just little ear holes or something like lizard ears....also...maybe just little arms like a T rex or something....and you might want to bring the actual eyeballs closer to the lids...theres a lot of seperation there and I think it would bring out the character in the concept drawing a little more....great job though....keep it up...these are just opinions...you don't have to do them...I like you're update though:thumbsup:

Thanks for the great comments guys!
Remi: Those are great ideas! I'm going to go ahead and remodel the character, using this version to learn texturing. I think one of my biggest mistakes early on, after reading more tutorials out there, is that I modeled this by eye, not using an image in LW as a guide (side, front, etc.). For the next version I will. :D
and one other thing...sorry for being such a pest....but the feet in the concept drawing are excellent...try and capture that in the modeling too...you can do it:D Great job man:thumbsup:

LOL, Remi, no worries!
All comments are welcomed, I'm pretty much learning all this in a vaccum as I don't personally know anyone in the industry or anyone even trying. So any wisdom I can garner here is great.
