I can go to the emitter and change from poit to surface, and now?? How can I make the link to make the particles actually emmit from a surface??

I dont think you can just convert a point emitter to a surface because you need a surface to emit from first using the "emit from object" command. which converts your surface into an emitter automatically hooking up the particles to it.
