I posted this here because yes its an animation question but it is very computer game related so... I thought it belonged here. I thought the animation specific forum was more towards cinematics and film not games.

If a player model is running in say UT2k3 and it stops and for example crouchs. Does the game finish a run cycle animation before it goes into the crouch animation (merging the 2). Or does the game just stop the run cycle where ever it is in the cycle and starts a crouch animation.

If its the latter then my idea for a really cool Unreal model wont work, if its no then good :)

Not sure about UT2K3 specifically, but most shooters won't transition. Takes too long with impulse-style games. They just cut to the next animation.

But I may be wrong about this particular game, haven't taken a hard look at it.

I would belive that games such as unreal tournament or quake 3 do motion blending, but in a very quick way. because when your playng it, you want the character to move when you press the key. instead of blending bettwen both animations. the same with stoping. imagine your're at the top of a pit, and want to stop just at the edge. you will expect the cracter to stop when you presse the key.

any way, if you want to see for your self, type this while playing ut2k3: (press "T" and remove the "say". then type:) behindview 1

this will put you on 3rd person view.

put it to 0 to go back to 1st person view.
