View Full Version : WIP - Marcus Blair Crosses the threshold
flawedprefect 10-18-2008, 10:51 PM Hi folks. This is the first 2D post I've been game enough to submit for critique here. I'm working on a solo project, and am coming up with some concept art (yeah, the usual story). Here is one of my main characters in a dynamic pose. Hope to get some critique/comment.

Hi Paul!
Well, the arm and leg anatomy is pretty bad. Especially the amputated left leg with the bad edema making the thigh so swollen...Poor guy...That must be why he wears his pants SO tight that his "package" is so obvious... ;)
The hands look good, the shoe looks goofy, and the facial expression is okay, but can you give him any other expressions? He is so tightly stylized, he almost seems cast in stone...
Interesting concept. Tweak the anatomy a bit more into line, and he'll be pretty impressive!

Cheers for the crit. Will post a revision next week. Also - feel free to download the image and sketch lines where you think the anatomy might be improved... but honestly... who doesn't like a bit o the ol' package in tight pants eh? ;)
I am working on an alternate pose based on a Silver Surfer cover I saw. The idea is being blown forward. I thought the cross shape was strong - thanks for the comments on the hands - I think I was so focussed on getting them right I lost track of perspective on the arms. Will look at that first, and the address the "amputee" leg (haha).

Because of the exaggerated style of the piece I'm not bothered by the inaccuracies of the anatomy. But I agree that his left leg makes him appear to be an amputee. And all you need is just a small hint of a shoe behind that leg to correct it.

I dunno man, I think it looks pretty darn good. I'd call 'em done and keep on moving. I can't wait to see some concept art of the rest of the crew.
