Title: The catcher in the rye
Name: Fernando Garcia
Country: España
Software: Photoshop
This is my free interpretation of the title of a book that I've never read, but that I found inspirational... I also wanted to play with fur lit from backwards, and so it came...
It was done in photoshop in spare moments during all summer, and... there's not much more to tell about it, I hope you like it and as always I'm open to crits :)

Cool picture! It really reminds me of the classic Samurai image, only it's a monster with a fishing pole. The atmosphere is awesome. I wonder if a little wayward fur on that bent elbow might make him look less well-combed. 4 stars!

hey, thaks a lot for your positive comments both of you Gothire and Exyder :) I'm glad that you liked it, and yes, maybe I should've added some wayward fur somewhere, ...but you know, he spends a couple of hours in front of the mirror every morning and I didn't want to upset him un-combing it :P hehe

First off, the skys lighting from yellow to a peach color is a great decision. It really helps sell the mood and compliments the red shadow cast by the main character. This is minor, but if you hold a pencil in the same manner that the main character is holding the pencil, you'll notice that your thumb is quite long and raises higher than the other 4 curled fingers. Since this is an undefined creature, it may just have a small thumb, but I've found its always good to actually do what your character is doing in order to maintain proper size and positioning when posing. This is also a purly artistic choice, but you may want to mildly blur the wheat in the forground and/or background, as this will help settle him in to his environment a bit more, although he looks pretty cozy the way he is now. Oh....and i love how he's wearing a casual dress shirt, it really sells this as a character which exists and has a definate personality.
I also really like the compfortable amount of negative space in front of the character.
This piece has alot of character and mood to it. really well done.
Hey Fer,
Cool !!! Great image my friend. I like a lot the palette that you used for this illustration. Great mood and atmosphere, agree that the yellow and redish tones puts a very evocative and peaceful enviroment on the whole picture. The creature design is really nice, like a lot. Again, great work tocayo :D ( me gustó muchisimo este trabajo tuyo y esto merece unas chelas bien helodias :D )

BenCole - hehe, I was almost waiting for that comment, maybe some day I should read the book...
Seedly - hey, thanks a ton for your in-depth comment, you are completely right about the thumb, I was so focused on drawing and re-drawing the 4 fingers right (it took me a while) that I didn't pay attention to the thumb... about blurring the back/foreground, personally it's an effect that I don't like much, but to be honest I've never tried it, so maybe I could give it a chance... thanks for your post :)
aaaand Fer! - gracias for stopping by here mate! and cheers! when is your next work coming out!? hehe...
