View Full Version : Leo - Original Character
JRTribe 10-18-2008, 06:06 AM A little history behind this: This is a character I created named Leo for a game idea I had a few years ago. It has sort of a steam-punk-inspired art direction, since I'm into that kind of stuff. Leo is an inventor and is able to use many kinds of nifty tools to get around/beat up bad guys with/fix things/etc.
I inked this with my tablet (traced over a scanned-in drawing) and colored it in Photoshop.
I'm already kind of aware of some of the problems, but I'd like another person's eyes.

Its a nice work but lot of room for improvement..
In my humble opinion this is what i think..
you should Tone down the background give it some other color or Grey this will make it better to look at the image.
the Jelly effect resulting from your highlighting / shinning the character is not a good idea. try to adopt any other technique for rendering surfacing in painting programs.
i like the texture you created on the shoes may be if you repeat this treatment to his shirt, jeans will tone down the jelly effect.
in terms of anatomy his neck and face shoes signs of weakness, arms are normal, legs relatively quite strong.
Placement of the rope is nice but the section of rope between his arm and shoulders defies the rules of gravity. :)
Hope you find my observation useful, thanks

Ditto what most of what Phoenix said.
Also, I wouldn't have guessed it was a steampunk inspired character if you didn't say so. I would look into adding some of that styles elements into this character to make it much more obvious. I really like steampunk and would love to see that here.
Maybe some steampunk goggles/glasses or watch. Maybe you could find a way to integrate that style in his belt or even his shoes?
Good Luck
