emm, yeah thats kinda racist. Your walking a very thin line and i think that this thread may be deleted. Think about it, a prominent black man being portrayed as a monkey.....

Interesting that you saw it like that as the mixed race group involved in AnimaNations didn't. Even more interesting that you are posting that comment with a "Southpark" image as your profile picture...

Like i said your walking a very thin line with this piece between whats politically incorrect and funny, and whats racist/bigotry/whatever.

Personally i think that south park does this very well and is one of the best satire comedys out there, like spitting image in its time. Your animation isn't very good satire, its cheap toilet humour.

Did you know that Obama is mixed race?
Would you have said the same thing if it was Bush not Obama?
Why is the black kid in South Park named "Token"?

Wow not only was that racist, but not really funny. I also find this more offensive than amusing because you're not an American company, and yet you're openly insulting us. Don't get me wrong, I love South Park just as much as the next guy, but that show is popular for a reason. It's actually funny.

On a technical side, the artwork is well done, but the animation could us a lot of work.

I agree with mistasam02. It's racist, it's not funny, and what is the point of this?
On the other hand the animation needs work, lots of loops and symmetry with the animation.

Out of curiosity why did you did this animation?

What does this have to do with southpark? There is nothing really wrong with SP.About the animation: In fact that was pretty racist, I hate to throw around names like that as they stereotype people so quickly, but this was really pretty terrible. The animation was also pretty poor. I wish I could think of aomething positive to say but I can't.

This is why your project isn't working. It looks like an anti-america ad rather than a pro obama, or a pro mccain ad.

You have some fat americans who like mccain. The fat people is a typical american sterotype obviously. These two people are both perfectly nice throughout the piece. They do nothing negative. In fact, the only real negative action is taken by the obama monkeys when they throw shit at the americans.

So now we have the idea that not only is obama a monkey, or lives with monkeys in disguise, but that he throws shit at people. Then we have obama's supporter, another monkey rooting for him.

How is that supposed to make Obama look good? You've made him a shit throwing monkey. How is that not racist? There's no irony there, only straight racism.

I questioned for a bit whether this was some sort of racist McCain ad, but it doesnt really work like that either.

Your piece was poorly thought out and does not send the message you intend. Even I dont know what the hell you intend, although I suspect the ad is just an attempt to make fun of americans as either fatties or monkeys.

I absolutely agree with this post. Even if you didn't intend it, this animation is racist (even down to the poorly characatured african guy driving the jeep), if you were aiming to be satirical you need to rethink the messages you are sending out.

I think it is bad and it doesn't bring the message across. Especially the animation is missing important stuff: Follow through, overlap just to name a few.
I do not see how this is racist as I do not see any indication of that the skin color has anything to do with the story.
It is definetly not Pro Obama (if it ever was ment as that) as it depicts him in a way that is not favourable at all and it would make all democrats monkeys. It also tells me that the democrats are just bringing on crap for their campaign.
It also shows resentiments against Americans as it shows them as fat white tourists but this is a stereotypical image which is often used in satire, not that this is a good one.
So if somebody could explain to me why this is racists?

The driver doesn't seem a racist depiction as he is simply talking English with an accent as he is no native speaker. There are tons of toon characters out there that do this e.g. Simpsons the Indian guy (Rapu if I'm not mistaken).

Btw the piece doesn't get better or bring a message better across if the person in the monkey would be white person.
That brings me to a point would this animation be sexist if it would be hilary clinton in the monkey?

Thanks for your comments.

We hoped the clip would start a discourse (which it did) to get people thinking about what is right and wrong. However, many sinister things have been seen in the clip that were not originally there so we have decided to self censor the clip and concentrate on other things.

There is an international group (from different countries) involved in this project and the idea has been to poke some fun at the world. It just so happens that this clip was having a dig at the US with the elections coming up. As a group we generally think it's important to break down boundaries through humor and although not all our work will "comment" ultimately there is a genuinely positive root at the core of our project and we hope that will become more clear as the project evolves.

For the record we were not insulting South Park, we just wanted to highlight that they often go very close to the line.
