View Full Version : Abstract of my Industrial Design dissertation
Mars_Artis 06-10-2003, 10:25 AM Last week i got graduated in architecture, with Industrial Design specialization for the last year.
My thesis title is "integrated agricultural system" aka Crab-Tor, an innovative tractor fot the incoming yearas.
Here follows some stills, as soon as i'll be free i'll try to setup a web page where to watch the animation.
See u soon.

Looks very professional and finished! Seems like you have thought it all out - that looks like it actually has all the functions and parts necessary . Very nice concept and very nice modelling!
:applause: :applause: :applause:
The renders might need some boosting up but as a showcase of the product these serve the purpose well, I'd love to see a bit more photoreal render of it though
Very nice!!!

great stuff.
how long did you work on this one?
and... where is the sunprotection for the driver cabin? :)
cheers

why would it need suspension on the cab? the wheels seem to move independantly, so all the bumps would be absorbed by the chassis
I like the render on the 22% side, as far as I can remember most tractor accidents are caused by the tractor losing balance when turning sideways on to a hill, this design elimates that, nice work

thx all for the comments.
About the lenght of the design process till the finished render and anim it took me many months.
I've started developing the project on november, passing throught different variations of design, till i come to this.
About the photorealism: yes u are rite i'd liked too to have it much more real, but i had not enough time for that, just consider that a C4D project file complete of the main tractor + the cab was about 250MB.
Anyway i was satisfied by the renders, but i'll make some more realistic as soon as i get free of my incoming duties.
Squidnic, marcom was speaking about the sunprotection, not bumpprotection for the cabin.
Anyway marcom the the blue roof ov the cabin can rotate around the some axe of the windows so to better protect the driver at his own wish. And consider that actually there are many technique that makes cab windows of many veichles work like shades: there are special film u can roll over glasses, then u can electronically exite the cristals present on film so that they darken and filter the UV rays.
And squidnic, u are rite about the balance losing of the tractor, infact my design was the result of the willing to make the tractor more stable and give the driver a better way to work.
There are some Italian tractors by Lamborghini and Same which have a peculiar system called Intel- CAB: the cab is suspended over four idraulic pistons which make the cab stay almost orizontal:

mates, i thank u all for further comments and crictics.
I swear i'll make u vailable the animation i made, but i think it want be before mid July.
I've to leave rite now. See u soon

LOL, damn, I can't read, I read sunprotection but was thinking suspension when I replied, :D

I would love to see one of the renders in wireframe. As far as 250mb for the total file size... I must not know anything, but I think my most complex model was only maybe 1mb in total size. I guess it could be the transfer from Rhino that makes it bigger, but you may want to use optimize on the bad boy to see if you can crank down some extra-unused points.
overall I give it a 9 out of 10. i love the idea, and coming from a farming background, it would be put to definate good use. i've never had a tractor roll on my, but being on a slope close to that is definately a scary situation. the only thing i would like to see you do is the wireframe, lets us know the final poly count and try to do a composite, so you get to stick your tractor in a field and make it look realistic. but overall great job.
