Ok so the footage was filmed on a sony ex 1 hd.

the mac computer is using final cut, and the exact steps taken to export were these:
- MARK CLIP
- EXPORT - QUICK TIME MOVIE
- SETTING is CURRENT SETTINGS
- INCLUDE is AUDIO AND VIDEO
- MARKER is ALL MARKERS
- RECOMPRESS ALL FRAMES box is not checkmarked
- MAKE MOVIE SELF CONTAINED box is checkmarked.

comes out as a *.mov file. (which plays just fine on the mac)

then transfer to the PC (where the after FX is at)

on the pc, opening the files in quicktime result in a black image, perfect audio, and the correct frame size. when opened in AE, the frame size is preserved, as is the audio, but the video is all white.

Im the guy on the PC side of this so these are the steps ive already tried:

1: renaming the file so the .mov is there (cant hurt so why not :))
2: opening in other programs such as WMP or VLC, both give errors.
3: virtualdub gives the error "Unreconized file type"
4: downloaded the newest quicktime and codecs
5: got a take direct from the camera (thus cutting out final cut) and its the same symptoms as above.

So now we turn to the greater minds of the forums, Help!!!

any ideas?

if you're comming from a sony ex1 hd, you're probably using the xdcam ex codec. when you're exporting using "same settings" you're exporting with that codec, a codec that's not supported by a lot of apps.

try exporting using quicktime conversion and choose a different codec
