View Full Version : A question
Cyborgguineapig 06-10-2003, 09:35 AM I have an important question. I just bought the Student version of Cinema V.8 and was wondering if it is legal to use it to make a non-profit game mod? Is there a simple yes/no answer to this?

Yeah you can. You are not making money from it so yes. What do you mean by non-profit though? My understanding would be you are selling stuff but all profits are either pulled back into the company or passed onto either a charity or service. That might be a grey area, which will need clarification.

I think non-profit is "you can download it for free" - a bit like They Hunger for HalfLife?

I simply meant like just making a mod for a game no financial anything involved. What I meant by NON-profit is that like most mods that are made, I would not make money off of the project.
You can't use a student license to make commercial work. If your work is personnal or/and free then there are no problems to that.

Ok, so you mean free or freeware. FYI 'Non-profit' means something completely different. There are businesses that run as Non-profit organisations, and they are essencially the same as normal business, but the flow of the money is different. A lot of charities and what I would call '.org' companies work like that. Eg guilds, clubs etc.

NO, its not a club or organization! I'm simply a kid wanting to make a mod. There is no money involved whatsoever.
