hey i was hopeing to get some critiques for my work! i'm making a short documentary on the life of a gummy bear, i want it really interesting and want to improve my silloettes so don't hold back! let me have it! ><

i was going for a cute, innocent look with the gummy bear!

i was going for a really mean looking kid, my teacher told me that i'm following too many stereotypes and will end up offending the audience. any tips would be awesome!

I LIKE the concept!

The Gummi-bear is too lanky, though. Gummis are more compact...
What "flavor" color is he going to be?
Are you going to have his fellow Gummis of other flavors in it too?

The anatomy on the kid is scarier than he is. Everything on the LH side of the canvas looks like he has a swelling problem, including his pants...lol!
CONSISTENCY!
Also, PLEASE give him his fourth finger. 3-fingered characters are SO lame if they are human and are as detailed like this...

Nothing wrong with stereotypes. Who are you going to offend with these? Nasty fat kids with poorly fitting shoes? The Gummi bears won't be offended, so long as you keep them tasty...

You could just go for an all-Gummi Bear creation, and use the "sour Gummis" as the protagonists in this...Don't know your plotline, though. Just a suggestion...

Looks promising. This will be fun to watch it develop!

ooo love the sour gummy idea! XD

been trying to stay consistant! spent very little time on the boy, i wanted to make just one or 2 gummies then make different textures to distinguish one from another but i'll probably end up playing around with a default model and creating different kinds of bears... It got suggested that i use more then one boy but that would make so much more work for little impact i find because they're only going to be on screen for less then 30 seconds. (this short film is going to be no more then 2 minutes)

now i'm going to paint the gummy bear on photoshop so that i can play around with the concepts! thanks alot for your input! >< i highly agree with you on the boy! didn't spend very much time designing him :P i can put more thought into him!

Nahhh. Since it is SUCH a short, I'd suggest ditching the boy, and focusing on the gummis.

You would then be able to put your time and effort into a GOOD basic gummi, and getting that "gelly" effect, with the surface textures...

You ARE eating these things while you are creating, aren't you? If not, BAD. BAD ARTIST! MUST KNOW your subject. Go buy a couple packages (make sure to get a pack of sour gummis ~ they have a "sugar coating" texture you can utilize to help distinguish good vs. bad gummis...) and look hard at them before you pop them into your mouth...MMMMmmmmm.....Gummi Bears...or gummi worms...

Hell. Personally, I'd make it an all Gummi ensemble cast.
Shorten everything down to make it cuter. The face is good for the happy, "sweet" gummis. Use the icky kid's expression for the "sour" gummis...Put 'em in a nice simple "teletubbies" type background (Easy for animation), and have little gum-drop flowers, with the gummi worms popping out of the ground to watch the gummi war...Gummi Wars! Violence with no blood (gummis don't ooze, even when you bite their heads off.)

MUCH faster and easier to simplify the concept so your only real changes will just be faces and surface textures for one body type...Leaves you more free time to really make the gummis look GOOD...

Or Gummi Survivor! A bowl of gummi's getting eaten, sweet and sour alike, with one poor gummi surviving as the kid passes out from a sugar coma...Thinking he's survived, only to have the dog eat him...Or he falls on the floor, hides under the couch, and gets vacuumed up in the end...

Although I LOVE happy endings, Gummis don't seem prone to a happy ending. They always seem to end up getting chewed and swallowed...Sad...

Whatever you do, take a few minutes to write down the whole concept, and then try to break it down into time sequences. Draw a Gantt Chart for the whole 2 minutes, with your scene broken down to when characters are added/subtracted, and different camera angles, and your storyline broken down to intro, action, and conclusion. It will be easier for you to follow your progress visually as you work on this, because you will be able to chart your progress.
Flash animation?
I still think the whole gummi concept is a great way to go. LOTS of potential to take the storyline in a hundred different directions. Really makes me want a package of sour gummis just yapping about it...My mouth is slightly puckering and I'm salivating...Sour gummis will do that to you as a pavlovian response...lol!

The gummi bear doesn't look so much gummy. If anything he looks more like an anorexic gummi bear. I wish that he would have a more cuddly appearance. So take into consideration that this gummi bear could be a bit more pudgy. The boy looks however like a cross-breed of Nelson Munts from the Simpsons and some farytale monster. I think if you made the hands identical to each other it wouldn't be so much of a problem.

This is looking wonderful!

I LOVE the sour gummi! He makes my mouth pucker looking at him. TOO funny!
The expression of the guy is great!
You've done really well, hopefully as well at your studies... ;)

There's no time limit on this. Work on it when you can.
It's looking really creative and fun. GOOD job.

The neck IS a bit wonky, just straighten it slightly so it is not as kinked looking. It will be fine.

SO glad I was of help to you!

Looking good, except for the feet.

You don't want him to look like someone wearing a costume over hiking boots.
Look again at your colored sketch. Yes, his feet are (UNFORTUNATELY) giant chunks (personal gripe ~ No one knows how to draw feet...everyone draws "boxes" nowadays...ESPECIALLY BAD when stuck on female figures...but bad on Gummi Bears, too...)
If you're going to have him big-footed, try to make them unobtrusive as possible. No "seams," "ridges," "bumps," or anything to attract the eye to them. His face is his best feature. The feet only support him.

Better, but you still have too many "wrinkles" around the ankles, and you STILL have the front of the feet sticking up too much by the THREE?!? toes...

LOOK at your original sketches. The toes did NOT protrude upwards like some weird thing. Although the toes were boxy shaped, it was a foot. Now you are bound and determined to make this large, lumpy toe thing...

I thought you said you knew how to draw feet.... ;p
