View Full Version : remodeling after I skin?
paul k. 06-10-2003, 06:53 AM Hi I am new to character rigging in Max and I was wondering if after I skin my character, say I want to remodel part of the character.... I tried to turn off the skin modifier then remodel and then turn it back on but I seem to lose all fo my IK for some reason? Any help would be really appreciated. It is very impotant that I am able to do this.
Thanks.
Paul

if you only work with envelopes this is no problem. if you paint your weights the modifier relies on vertex information, this will be changed if you change the underlying model... i'm not an experienced skinner, but i think it will cause problems..
max should also give you a warning if you access modifiers below the skin modifier

Hey, I recently had to do the exact same thing with one of my models for a class. If you skin your character by painting the vertex weight you will have problems. If you go back into Editable poly/mesh(what ever u used, even if you hit hold) and remodel and then go back to the skin modifier everything will reset and the bones will not grab any of the vertexes.... it sucks but it happens.
Sorry for the bad news. :thumbsdow
