View Full Version : Vehicle: Spitfire Mk22
Eman597 06-10-2003, 03:16 AM Hey, this is a model of a Spitfire Mk22 from WW2. It is for a short filim Mickey and I are doing. The film is live action, but we are doing the dogfight sequence in CG. Hope you like it!

I'm not up on all the versions but that looks very wrong at the mo.. cockpit especially and the wings look very wonky and badly done.. what are you using for reference? Also your hard edges... (around the undercarriage etc) are not hard.. check out what your software can do to handle that. Sorry if that all sounds harsh but you can pull this a lot further.:)

Ok .. I just done a quick search and found a mark 22 and there are a lot of differences to the models I'm used to. The cockpit on the pic I got is indeed a proper bubble canopy closer to that of a Mustang than most of the earlier Spitfires but from what I can see the only outer construction to it is for the front panes with no midway strut like you have. It also goes down much flusher to the body work than you have it. Whilst the wings are arguably not as elegant as earlier Spitfires the way you have done the flaps on yours is makes the structure look very messy.. my fault I intially read them wrong when I said wonky... the messy mesh around the flaps .. again due to not having the edges hard and possibly not aligned as best they could be makes them read very badly. In fact the majority of the problems appear to come from the mesh smoothing. If this is done in Max I suggest learning how to use smoothing groups and/ or reading the huge sub D post over in the Max section. Any chance of a smooth and unsmoothed wireframe? :)
Here's the link to the pic I base this on:

thanks for the reference pics and knowledge, this is done in lightwave and i have a weight map applied to the subd surface, i can make the flaps align better by moving points and messing with their weight.
