What is the difference and advantages to either one? I do mostly architectural and mechanical renders.

For your needs they both will be very similar. I think you'll find Brazil has better controls for lights, cameras and materials. VRay has nice displacement and motion blur right now and is inexpensive compared to Brazil. Both are comparatively fast, though I'd lean towards Brazil's area lights/shadows being faster.

For your needs if you can afford it I'd go with Brazil, if not then I'd choose VRay.

Yeah, I would have to agree with "Sarge"...if u can afford it then go with Brazil. Vray is nice too...not much in terms of control. Some stuff does it for you automatically, which is nice if you don't have alot of learning time and want quick results.

i hav to go the other way. i hav used brazil and vray, and i hav always resorted back to vray. from my experience, its significantly faster, plus i like the controls u hav on everything. i do like the brazil camera options and lights, but when it comes to pure renderer, i will always stick with vray.

u can try em both out i believe, so do some testing of ur own, see which one suites ur needs
