Here is a concept sketch I'm working on. Drawn and coloured completely in Photoshop.

I'm having trouble deciding on a more textured look for it, any thoughts?

The look I'm trying to go for is more like the great illustrator:Larry MacDougall (http://www3.sympatico.ca/underhill/LarryMacDougall/index.html) . He works primarily in traditional watercolour and goache, but I'm looking more for some digital tutorials online? (either Photoshop or Painter)

Any thoughts or advice?

he!he!
i like :) .....the style is kool....i think you shud go ahead and complete the body as well....im sure you will know exactly what to do as you go along.

....the way i go about it is...to build layer upon layer.....and just let my artistic juices flow.. ....and thatways, if you mess up...you can get rid of the layer and go back to what you were doin.
hope to see more of your work

Cheers

Wow= very nice, is the artist you mentioned, did he work on the movie 'The Dark Crystal' Your artwork is very much on par with the sketskis that were in the movie. Looking good!

Thanks for the encouragement Zappa! I really appreciate it  I haven't had any formal art training so most of it comes from what I've picked up along the way.

And to answer your question, mattregnier, I think Larry MacDougall might have been influenced by the Dark Crystal(although he lists Arthur Rackham as his main influence). Thankyou for the comparison to the Sketskis! I take a lot of inspiration from that movie.

That guy you're thinking of from the Dark Crystal is Brain Froud (http://www.worldoffroud.com/) . He was the lead concept designer for both the Dark Crystal and the Labryinth.
(Dance magic dance!! Dance magic....ulp...oh....sorry) :hmm:

He and his wife Wendy currently have a studio in the UK somewhere where they've published a couple of books. Definately worth checking out.

Hey!gmoran
lookin good...use the smudge, blur tools n get rid of the lines and blend it with the painting...and use the dodge and burn tools for adding further highlights/details etc.
