Specular, AO and color

you might want to do a search here or on google, lots of info on it.
normally you would mutiply the color with AO and add it with spec.

The AO pass has also a few other uses - for instance you can use it as a mask layer to occlude lighting done in post in your comping package - or invert it to use it as a mask for a dirt layer, etc. I think you get the idea - but yes generally I use the AO as a multiply layer to add in contrast and details.
