View Full Version : Beetroot - student final reel for crit

I'm a first year 3D student with 8 weeks actual animation training so as I've said before, I'm kinda blindly bashing round in the dark a bit here.
I'll use this thread for my final reel. Heres what I have so far, feedback is always appreciated.
(Beetroot is the name of that character, aww)

Well, the lipsync vid was removed, but I'll critique the bashing. The character that walks in goes totally stiff in an awkward pose. I know you meant to do that, but keep him moving. Make him catch his balance as he's on one foot. The other guy isn't moving at all, and somehow holding this huge bat at that angle with no stress. He could be twirling it, or hitting his other hand with it as he waits. The walk up to hit needs a ton of work. Try videotaping yourself holding something and running up to another person. It could be cool to animate him like Happy Gilmore running up to a golf ball. Last but not least, FINISH the animation! You can't end it mid-hit. Keep it up, and post a revision! :D

work for a good while doing body mechanics tests until you can convincingly move characters with weight and a good amount of realism, then go back to this and you should see a big improvement

Thanks for your comments. I forgot to mention before that this is blocked out hence the white guy completely stopping. I didn't really like the weird pose when he stopped either so have changed a few things here. I definitely agree on the body mechanics, have got some more reference since and will post another update soon. Heres what Ive done in the meantime (I'm working on another scene as well - promise why theres only a small amount of progress!:P), its not finished yet, about half way through.
