Hi, this is my wip of an old microscope that I found in the house of my grandmother, and my dream is get the cgtalk gallery! Maybe I´m not good enough to get this award, but, I will try again and again to make this little dream true. well, obviously I need a lot of c&c to improve this model. And If some one have and idea for the final composition, say it! by now I have the model completed, and I will start making the UV coordinates and base colors this week. well, thanks a lot for your opininon and sorry for my english!

looks great so far! You could put it in some kind of old lab where the pioneers of medicine fought disease.
much luck for the gallery!

Just curious, do you intend on creating textures so that it looks like the "old" beaten-up original or are you going for a restored (new) look?

that, my friend, is a very good question:
I want to make a copy exact the original, but, to make the old look, I will make 2 materials, like the new black paint, and the unpainted metal, and later mix them with a mask or blend, I´m not very sure about how mix the new and the old material, (sugestions are welcome  ) but with this method I can see the "restored" microscope, and the "old & original microscope".
thanks for your question!

this one looks like brass with black paint, and weight aprox 5 pounds.
The UV maps are completed, I´m started to make some materials, (the most easiest first  )

cheers!

it needs environment, but the model looks awesome:thumbsup:

knebbes

i agree to sceme
the only thing i dont like is that the pattern of the peeling paint on the left black cylinder repeats on the right one (i hope you understand what i am talking about ;) )

torbjorn

i think it looks too clean and shiny to be old...

otherwise, good job...need better lighting aswell :scream:

sceme, knebbes, torbjorn, thanks for your opinion!

what about this for an enviroment: a nice block of glass with the microscope inside and a red cloth in the base, with a museum background?:surprised

you right, I'll tweak the 2 cylinder mask to get a different pattern.

I know some part are very shiny, but I have the original in my hand and some part do not loose their natural shiny.:bounce:

cheers
