View Full Version : Best compression format that includes Alpha?
jeferichardson 06-09-2003, 06:51 PM Hey, I have generated a ton of CG renders of elements. And am looking for a way of compressing them. I need to keep the alpha. Right now I have them uncompressed, but its not really practical for storeing them or archiving.

Quicktime (Pro ?) supports Alpha.
I compress with Sorenson Squeeze.
What format does your Animation-sequnce have ?
I once had to email a sequence of 4,5 Gigs :banghead: ; of course uncompressed. I just WinRARed it and got 35 MB, without loosing quality. In WinRAR change the compression accuracy from Normal to Best, and so I got a small file with NOT loosing on bit of quality.

I rendered out in SGI format. Thanks for the suggestion. But I want to avoid ZIP or RAR. I had someone suggest researching AVID codecs and www.digitalanarchy.com/product_micro.html.

QT with PNG compression, it's slower than for example Animation, but a lot smaller, and completely loss-less.
