I just saw the Simbiont plugin for C4D from Darkling Simulations is now in a release version. I have been playing with the plugin on MAX at work, and there are some very nice materials in there. Good addition to the arsenal.

Have they done a MC OSX version yet?

Exactly I really want this plug for mac.

Almost 40% of c4d users use macs, so it makes no sense not to have a mac compatible plugin.

I've been drooling over this for a while now, too, but alas, no Mac support yet. Sniff, Sniff.

Give them time. They don't exactly have a lot of staff, and they had to support their existing customers on MAX, LW, AM, and trueSpace. This is the the first iteration of their Cinema4D product, and their priority was to get a stable release out the door. It is as yet not even feature-complete.

AFAIK they do have plans for a mac version for the Symbiont, but I don't remember their talking about a timetable.

Do you know what the features that are missing in the C4D version are?

It doesn't respond to GI. I'm not sure if there is anything else missing, as I have not had a chance to try it out yet (just got it downloaded this weekend).

I've been using the beta since it first came out. I love it! The only probelm that I have seen is that sometimes the interface wont load and will cause Cinema to crash. I've lost 3 or 4 models because of it, but i learned my lesson, save often and then save more. Overall, I would be willing to buy the thing, but I would like to try out the final release first, to see what they have changed.

It should be much more stable now. And btw, the Simbionts (for all applications) are *free*! Very generous of them, too. They only make money if you buy the full DT textures--which totally rocks. I've had it for several years, but haven't used it much lately because there was a nasty dual cpu bug in the Cinema plugin. They finally figured it out last week so I'm back in action! :applause: :applause:

Sweet-ba-jee-bus! I used it religiously for the longest time. Then I started actually making my own textures, or using BhoudiNut. They are the real bomb! Although so is DT. Well back to work. If you find out anything else. Let me know.

Well I tested it out last night, and it seems great. I do find it is difficult to eliminate the noise that you often get from algorithmic materials, especially with surfaces that are close to perpindicular to the camera. Anyone found a way to solve this?

i've never had a problem with it. I just had to make sure that I rotated the texture before i did anything else, especially when i was texturing a floor.
