whenever i rotate ore move the whole selction of ik,bones, helpers and mesh i get horrible deformations when autokey or set key is on (exept move the whole mesh along the x-axis) without it it works fine
could someone help me with this because now i feel really limitted in animating things
i m using 3ds max

i think it sounds like you have YZ lock on and gimbal lock on the X. try putting IK handles between the head and the toe, that should lock it down. also, you could apply a space warp to counter the mesh deformation. if this doesnt work, make a morph target of particles, which you can use to counter-animate the effect of the dodgy mesh deformation you are getting.

another technique is called tri-dimensional mesh filtering and uses many of the techniques found in bi-directional mesh filtering but with added power. go to the modify panel and tick on the tri-dimensional mesh filtering option. this will bring up the option box will conain options to automatically correct any errors with the mesh. including, flamboyance, irregularity and technical dipersion. however, practical dispersion is not implemented yet in max - another plus for Maya hahaha ;)

ok, hope this helped, it's one of those things you just have to learn how to over come im afraid!
