I don't want this to come off sounding hyper critical, so please take it with a open mind.
Your sense of proportions is quite off. The relative scale of many parts is incorrect. You have a near orthographic view with Feng's sketch, so why not load it onto a viewport and use it as a guide.
I've created a small visual critique to show the disparity between the concept and your model. Compare dimension "A" and the angle "B" and the guidelines between features of the two images.
From your earlier work, I can sense that you want to get it "right" and you're off to an awkward start on this one

looking very good so far. If u can do the in cg what u have in the concept art in the final model it will surely look awesome! but its so insane the ammount of detail on it! it will surely not be an easy task!
best of luck, i know uŽll do it!

I completely agree with you dangeruss.
Looking back at that render which was done in a fairly sleep deprived state, it's AWFUL.
The perspective of that render if changing the way the model looks relative to how it's being created. I'm actually working from an ortho view. I'm going to post a screenshot.
Hold on.

Cool - looks like you're on the right track then. The render you posted earlier looks "squashed" so that's probably a lot of where the odd look came from. Check your image output ratio some resolutions in MAX create non square pixels.
You're using MAX no? Or is it LW.

Feng has a more-or-less blanket permission in his FAQ regarding 3D models of his work:
"Q: Can i model your designs in 3D?
A: Yes; if you are using it for personal projects. I don't own the copyrights to some of the designs on my site. Thus if you use them for profit reasons, you'll get in trouble with those companies. Copyright violation fines are very expensive. And please give me the due credit if you use any of my images. Thanks."
I suspect he gets flooded with emails so this must have proven easier in the long run.

It's Maya. I've since resolved that issue. Word of advice, never render out at 4:30am when you haven't slept for a couple of days. I'm hoping to get this done within the next couple days, so I'll keep you posted.
R-Quinn - Like Dangeruss said, Feng is pretty cool about his works being brought to 3D provided you aren't trying to make money off of them.

Here's a small update.
Fixed the stupid aspect issues with the render.

Oh hell yeah! That's looking tons better than the last render. I really like the blade antennae (?) you've made. The look even better than the sketch. The cabling looks awesome. Cant wait to see the rest of it.
Are you planning to texture this one?
Since you're a fan of Feng - check this one out :) Done quite a while ago - so the lighting rather sucks... No G.I.

Wow that looks really good. Lighting could use some work. I'm not that great at lighting, which is why I turn to fake GI scripts.
As for texturing. Most likely not. This is all demo reel stuff, and I honestly think that my texturing skills would take away from the overall model. I'm planning on doing another high res after this. Most likely an old Boeing F4b and then 1 or 2 models with a controlled poly count. :)
I haven't figured out what the last model or two is going to be.

Arms done. Only one displayed in this render.

You should try to find an image host somewhere so you can link to higher res images. This looks great so far, but I want to see all those details.

I'm actually having some issues with image linking on my own web server which is why I don't have any high res shots of it right now. Once I get that straightened out, it shouldn't be an issue.
