Nice rig, but not a ideal :(
I've looked at your file (more complex than tutorial) an found one bug: if i move spine_4_fk up and right (give some strech) and then rotate it Z-direction more than 180 grad, than rig looks strange.
I undrstand for spine it's a very abnormal position, but for others objects it may happen.
However nice rig!

That might be fixable if you use a curve with more cv's and skin it differently. It doesn't do that as much when i mess with the skinning of the spineIK curve.
