View Full Version : Vue Sunset attempt
HarryHotspur 10-08-2008, 06:07 PM Hi all,
I'm trying to create a nice peaceful sunset scene in Vue6Inf. I'd be grateful for some feedback on what I've done so far.
What do you think about the lighting, the colours, composition etc?
Thanks!

Hi HarryH
There are a few things on the composition you might want to consider:
The horizon is in the middle of the frame.Try placing it lower (to focus on the sky) or higher (to focus on the water). The horizon also looks tilted to the right?
I think your intention is to use the palms as framing devices? Im not sure they are doing that, particularly the one on the right. You could try reducing the ambient to make the palms into silhouettes?
The foreground of the water lacks interest. Moving the horizon may help to change the focus. Add a beach, or a boat?
The landmass and sun are perhaps too far to the right.
Have a look at some traditional waterscapes or landscapes for pointers to composition. There are plenty of "rules": placing items on thirds; using foreground, midground and background; framing; points of focus. Of course all rules are there to be broken.
Hope this helps.
Which water material is that?
PS I was born and raised in Brighton & Hove

The image is nice. The lines from the palm trees cause the eye to move towards the mountain and sun in the background. Unfortunately, there is nothing in the image to cause the eye to move away from the mountains. This results in a very static image with little energy or movement.
I also agree that the focal point is to far to the right. Perhaps move it more into the centre. Also, I think you need something more in the foreground to cause the eye to move around and add some motion to the image. In addition, having the mountains so far to the right causing the right side to feel heavier then the left, this is causing the horizon to look slanted (it seems to be only off by a pixel or so--measured against the top of my browser).
Out of interest, from the way you worded your post, what do you think is wrong with it?
