They're have been some really weak racing games lately, so I thought I'd make a racing game vehicle. All terrain, and All Kick-ass. :P

Hi Dirk...........:wavey:
Nice to see you in again.I am glad to be the first to welcome you.
All terrain sounds interesting and fun. Will you be going for futuristic or retro or fantasy with the design?
Good luck, nice to see you back in.

Alright folks...In order to try and draw out some comments, ive decided to wait and post significant progress.
The front suspension is complete, it was very important to me that it looks like it could actually work.
Should I have the strut bars spanning and connecting over the front??
Comments please.

LOL, you saying I can't draw???.....
we'll you are correct sir! :p
I could have probably made the sketch look half decent, but i was eager to get started and didn't want to spend more than 2.5 minutes on it.

hell!! you can model! dont actually need to draw for that, go for the business;)
just could you lightn'up the model in the render? and maybe add some shadows.. or is just too late, dunno about your workflow.

Ha, thats not a render, thats xsi's realtime viewport. Looks better like that than rendered. Rendering is one of the many things in my skillset that is quite lacking. I'll definately have something better soon...tomorrow possibly.

Give us a quick render, 'cause those tires bug me a bit, looks like they have non planars in them. They also look a bit stiff. Then again, they may look ok in a rendered view.
A rendered view may get people to post more, I know I was waiting for that before commenting...

Thanks a bunch for the comment Wolfzbane!
Those main polys on the tires are indeed non-planar. I cut them into tri's to see if it changed anything when subd'd but it did not.
Heres an Fg render for you all, I finally got it to work! :P

Better than sketch that for sure, but my sketch ability is not good also.I do not like tires, they look like Flinstone car reject.Strut and details do look good so far. There you have a comment, stop asking so much.he he.:)

Hey Dirk, where's your up-date ................I like the whole idea/concept,the tires do need an overhaul, but don't change them completly, they can still retain there original look for the most part.
I like your attention and thoughts to details all the time, always a great thing to see people go that extra mile.
hey don't be such a stranger, come on to our thread say something, you hate it,love it,or you just want to say HI,it's cool.
I'll see you after your up-date.

Hi dirk...........Well I think you should forget the new version, just my thought. As for the other tires,a bit more smooth, more soft on the edges.I wish the new version was better to me,but I got to call it like I see it,but maybe I am the only one.Everyone else might like the new version better. You will see.
Keep plugging away at it.Rome was not built in a day you know.

:bounce: Hi!!! small advise from something that i learned while i was watching some GREAT MODELERS AND DESIGNers in CGTALK....try to think as if u were making these wheels for real..in what ground they would be...in what vehicle ...what horsepower...what year(...and one of the most important things..) with what technology would they be made of..it's not a joke ..it is something u need to think of...
...my 2 cents....astalavista baby..(no offence for the baby word...lol... )

Thanks Dimitris for dropping the comment, good advice. I try to do that as much as possible.
Small update, feels like I've done a lot of work on it today, I think im getting slower, jeez. Not sure If I like the direction im goin with the bodywork so far, oh well.

It's a tough one. Somewhere between those two tyres would be just right. I like the sharpness of the first ones you did, but they did look like they would give a bumpy ride.
The second set will look cool if you keep that style consistent throughout the model. They look a bit more... I was going to say cartoony, but thats not the right word. I guess they just look a little less realistic maybe.
Anyway, I love all the suspension and framework you got there. It's bringing back memories of running over alien scum in my warthog in Halo. Nice work, keep it up.

antnik Thanks a bunch!
Alright, changed my vision for the bodywork, and am quite happy with it so far. Just an OpenGL capture.

Looking good Dirk, it's coming together well. I reckon it would look awesome with a rollcage.
That rear left tyre looks a bit funny though. It seems to not be very rounded, but it could be the lighting.
Keep going :wip:

Ionized: Thanks for the comment, we'll see about a rollcage, I haven't tried it yet, but its on my list.
The rear tires have an alternating pattern, so that may be why it looks funny.
Finally got around to working on it today.
