View Full Version : Maya creating extra transform nodes, unwanted
CoolDuck 10-07-2008, 08:30 AM Hi, I'm having trouble with a rig I'm making. After the rigging was finished I was trying to add several objects to some groups of the rig (lets say the Arm group), with parenting inside the group. But everytime Maya makes an extra transform node for me, messing up my hierarchy. This happens also when I try to move existing groups to rearrange my hierarchy. Does anyone know whats happening? I'm using Maya 2008 on the Mac.

If your reparenting joints and its previous parent had scale transforms on them, the new group is used so that your joints retain the same transforms they had with the previous parent. To avoid this, you should avoid any groups with scale values other than the default when dealing with joints.
The same thing happens for clusters too. It's usually better to pre-group clusters you want to stay together than to directly parent clusters (this will produce a new group).

I found out what was causing the problem. I copied the rig (which is a wing) to the other side of the character as an instance. Will be more careful with instances when rigging yeah.
