View Full Version : Architecture: A Stairway
heipei 06-08-2003, 07:08 PM Hi,
this will be my first posted work here on cgtalk, and i'm already shaking despite the really incredible work around here and me not being sure my latest projects fits in between ;)
So, since there are so very few architectural projects and so many human heads (most of them female) and concept cars im going to post a stairway (The other reason is that my modelling skills are nothing to talk about, yet)
The image is based on a real work by Architect Claudio Silvestrin (very very nice interior designs!). I'll focus on the lighting, which seems obvious ;)

sweet. i love the lighting on the stairs! the blown out lighting in the center left is detracting though. maybe you could tone that down a bit.
has this been created yet?

Ooopsy, forgot about all that in the first place
Here you go:
Used Maya 5.0 with Mental Ray
Render Time was roughly 16 minutes on a 1.3ghz p4 with 384mb rdram
Here is the reference, had to photograph it, original quality is way better of course ;)

Oki doki,
here's the latest and in my opinion almost final version of my stairway.
I finished the ceiling light, dimmed the light through the door somewhat, and altered the whole thing in photoshop via hue/saturation/lightness to get a warmer look.
Also i improved the render quality by setting mental ray final gather maximum and minimum values.

comments & critics as always welcome!

This is looking good, but maybe you could take a look at the shadows. The shadow on the stairways is very hard. Try to make that softer.
Can we also see an wire of it.
Keep on going:thumbsup:

I think that the door at the bottom of the stairs is a LOT larger than the one in the photograph. Other than that, it's coming on alright.

Looking good. Something strange looks to be going on with the lighting to me. The shadows on the wall by the steps closest to the camera are very strange. I see there are lights on the steps that are casting the shadow but it just looks like to hard of a shadow. Just my opinion. other than that it's great.
