I have 4 seperate fire effects listed in my enviornment/atmosphere rollout. each has different colors, and different names. When I change the explosion timming under setuo explosion it changes all 4 fire effects. How do I make them all different. Why are these values global?

Thanks!

Hmm, I haven't used the effect before. But perhaps you could track it down in the Track View, and uiquefy it there?

This is the most common misconception in the history of 3ds max since 1.0, so you are not alone :)

The values you mention are NOT parameters of the Fire Effect. They do not control its properties DIRECTLY. They are a sort of "Explosion Generator". What happens is that using these controls generates keys on other tracks which control the actual individual explosion timing of the separate Effects. The values themselves are not used after this generation process, so changing them in another FireEffect does not alter anything in the already set up Effects.
On the other hand, if you want to create two effects with similar or identical timing, you set the values for the one and then use the same values for the next explosion without having to remember what the values were, so it makes sense to "carry over" them between FireEffects.

I *hope* I explained it clearly (but I don't really think so), please ask if you still have questions!
