Hello,

I am looking for a tutorial to set the perspective of a 3d program to planometric.
I have been trying to do it on gmax using the Camera set to Orthgonal, and the Tape Helper, but I can never get it right.

Please, if anyone knows how do it on:
Gmax, 3ds Max, Anim8or, Blender, GIMP, or any other preferably free 3d program (by order of preference)
I would truly love to learn from you. =)

For a more visual explanation, I would like to be able to render 3d objects under this perspective:

Thanks a million in advance ^^

PS: Sorry, if this is the wrong section to post these types of question.

Hi Leath,

I have limited background in tech drawing. But.....
As far as I know planometric (45 deg) or axonometric (60deg/30deg) drawings are deliberate distortions of a 3D object for display purposes. And that the ground plane is drawn in such a way that circles will appear undistorted. Those drawings were handmade (ie analogue - pencil and paper).
I did a quick search and turned up a thread:
http://forums.augi.com/archive/index.php/t-40379.html
which suggests that even AutoCAD cannot produce these types of projected drawings.

Thanks, Andalusite, for the reply. =)

I had read somewhere too, that AutoCAD could not perform them. However, there seem to be some utility from Xanadu that enables AutoCAD to do so:

I am way too unfamiliar with AutoCAD to look deeper into that though, and I dont own a copy of the program. So, I was really looking more into other options.

I found a thread explaining it on 3ds Max, but its in German, and the translator does not do a good enough job:
http://www.tutorials.de/forum/3d-studio-max/305510-military-projection-militaerperspektive-3d-rendersoftware.html

I have a feeling I was on the right track using the Tape tool, but I cant set it up right =(

Once again, thanks ^_^
Appreciate any help

This turns out to be really easy to setup in 3ds Max.

Create a free camera, change it to orthographic, rotate it 45° around the up axis (pan), then rotate it 45° downwards around its local X (tilt).

Create some cylinders in the camera's view.

In the Render Settings, lock the Image Aspect spinner, and adjust the Pixel Aspect spinner, testing the aspect ratio with renders.
