Hi there,
I am using Shave and Haircut for rendering fur of a monkey and a camel, and still am in the testing phase. I am using Maya 8.5 and using MR as the renderer, rendering the hair as Hair Primitives using the Rasterizer option in it.
Using regular shadow maps, I am getting pretty much the kind of soft shadows I require. My only query is:
When rendering in MR, shave and haircur shadows are not rendered, instead the MR shadow map shadows are rendered even for the Hair. Now, I am using a rimlight, where I want the shadow of the geometry to fall on the fur, but the I do not want the fur to cast self shadows onto themeselves, as the rimlight is at the edge, and on movement a lot of shadows appear and dissappear on the fur.
Now, I have increased the bias to 0.120 to let go of minute changes, but I want the fur to stop casting shadows as it goes with the look of my rimlight.
So, How do I exclude the fur from casting shadows while the body of the monkey keeps casting shadows on the fur??? If it had been a software render, I would have made the Shave Shadow attributes 0, thus fur would have stopped casting shadows, while the body would still cast from the maya shadow map of the light. But, rendering in MR, the hair take shadows from the mR shadow map attributes as they are rendered as Hair primitives.
I have searched the Shave and Haircut threads, but didn't stumble on this simple issue anywhere.
Please, people guide me !
