sweep 06-08-2003, 02:50 PM Hi
I analyze the cartooncam of Naam and i don't understand the outline!
Why this outline is blur ?
When i adjust the shadow map (ex: 1000x1000) he is very fine but not blur :hmm: , but when i adjust the outer angle the outine is fat but blur :D
I want create a clean and adjustable outline, can you help me ?
Thanks a lot for your help

its a soft shadow, and being a soft shadows its makes things, wel soft. otherwise the effect wouldn't work at all. turning off transpaerency on the shadows and playing with the bias ad shadow map resolution may help a bit, but tis the softness of the shadow that gets the line to show up n the first place.

i want this now !:bounce:
when can we have this shader, this week ?
It's excellent but it's not the perfect outline of naam, in the "camiel-maybe" clip.
The outline of naam it's a shader or the update naam cam ? Because i have testing a lot of settings and nothing! (thanks kaiskai)
Naam is god and i'm nothing :banghead:

if you want it now, just use fresnel, as that's what it is. the function parser allows you to make your own shaders and post effects through functions, it's not a cel shader.
alternatively have a look at my tutorial on toon outlining and cel shading on my website in the tips section (just click the link in my profile to get to the site).
and as kai said, use hard shadow rather than soft shadow to get hard outlines with naams outlining camera.

yeah you can't use a hard shadow, it has to be soft, but make it harder. Camiel maybe was done with a newer version of his old setup, they have added some extra stuff like some expresso and even some fresnel I think. A whole bunch of stuff, only person that would know how thay did that would be naam, but I don't think he's planning on releasing the newer one.

you can use a hard shadow provided the light is in front of the camera (the further forward the thicker the lines).

There is a free package availabe named "Shades of Cel" which are a bunch of SLA shaders. I found them on the Bhodinut Forums a while ago. I do not know if the Bhodinut forums are still available, but maybe you will find them on the net. I used them for my characters and they worked great.
