Ok some of you guys might recognize this character, well it is Avatar's from the 2d section on Threedy.com and if you havn't seen it i suggest you check out some of his work there it is phenomenal work. Anyway he has been kind enough to let me 3d model it for him. her is the original and there are wips to come soon.

wow you're right that is an incredible drawing

your head is coming along pretty well, it doesn't seem quite tall enough, or maybe it seems to long front-to-back.. and the front view looks odd, not sure why. also he looks a bit like he's smiling.. gotta make those eyebrows a bit angrier-looking

Thanks drake I will definately work on that, I Have only spent a half hour on this so far. There is alot more going into it, i am at work right now but as soon as i get off i will be on this model.

Very Warcraft inspired, even like the little symbol on his loyn(sp?) cloth that totally reminds me of the Horde's, hehe.

Can't wait to see it in 3D; you should check out the first 2 seconds of the World of Warcraft trailer to see one in cinematic quality for reference.

1. Stop using the FG, GL, or whatever(it's not doing you any good, sorry)

2. Looking alright so far, but I think its not matching the drawing too much; the head looks good; but it doesn't have the brute nature of the drawing

The body, more or less is looking odd(front view is hard to see) as its looking more human then a big hunch back, I think he needs to be more hunched and a lot more beefier.

The shoulders and arms need to slope down and teh arms wayyyyy more thick with muscle.

Maxsmackage
06-09-2003, 11:13 PM
Arms = Beefier
Chest = Broader
Both of these need BIG change good job so far though :)

Anuxinamoon
06-10-2003, 01:30 AM
heheh wow u do model fast :)
heh i agree with Maxsmackage he is a bull... he needs more beef
ummm im sure that when u put in the finer details like wrinkles and stuff the characteristic nature of the sketch will show up :) the eyes r too big tho... try to make the eyelid curve around them more to give it more of a smeery, evil type look
:) keep going tho! and dont slow down

ah cool, its definatly beefier and the face looks a bit touched up too; maybe not mean looking, but very stoic.

From the front view the pecks look a bit odd; but it's definatly on its way now.

DrakeX
06-12-2003, 01:05 AM
the chest is misshapen in more than one way -- with his arms up like that the chest should go almost at an angle up to the shoulders, and the top should go tot he shoulders as well -- right now he's suffering from "extruded circle pecs syndrome" or ECPS ;)

also the chest is supposed to angle out at the bottom and in towards the neck.

definitely looking better than the scrawny first version..!

Looks cool, although i think the spaces around the biceps, tricpeps are overdefined compared to the rest of the whole body and you might consider widening them a bit too. The throat/neck is probabaly the best with the whole model, looks really neat.
And push the abs up a bit :D

i really like the style here, i think drake was right tho about the chest, and we cant really see the changes you made, could u close up on the chest agian? i really like the legs, and i think the muscle definition in the arms is perfect for this style. great job bro!
Keep us updated ! :wip:

I agree with the hair part, and i am going to be using facial morphs to give him that pissed off look, i didn't want his relaxed look to be pissed off. Here is a darker image so you can see the details more.

Here you go and update on the head for you..................Started on the Armor that is comming a little later.

http://www.omissbrown.com/baron/Mini/new.gif

Teyon Thanks man I will throw some more detail into the knuckles, I think that is why them seem so square, I didn't really flesh them out.

Teyon
06-17-2003, 02:44 PM
Cool beans. You should consider defining the lower part of the upper maw to resemble a pseudo lip. Don't actually make a lip but have the flesh meet the lower lip more. Right now it seems as though he has an underbite.

I love the legs. Forgot to mention that before.

Lordrych
06-17-2003, 02:57 PM
Are you talking about just below his nose? putting a psuedo lip there?
update on the rear end with the tail attached and some armor work done.............

http://www.omissbrown.com/baron/Mini/rearend.gif

Rych

Teyon
06-17-2003, 03:21 PM
No, not really, I think the nose area is good but more like starting from the outer end of the nose going back to where the upper lip meets the lower one.

Edit:
Looking good by the way.

Teyon
06-17-2003, 03:27 PM
I hop eyou don't mind the use of your image as a ref.

Okay, see the red line? That could be made to sink in a little, giving the impression of an upper "lip" that matches the already defined lower lip. Maybe not as thick though. :)

The blue line represents the crease where the two lips meet. That needs to be sunke in also or his mouth will have a wrap around look...kind of like every black character in DragonBall does if that helps you understnad why this is bad. It just would look weird. SO, you should sink in that area also or smooth it out somehow.

That is, if you decide to add the "upper lip". I really like what you're oding. I wish I could finish my demon/minotaur thing.

Great sketch and modeling - But, I might take another look at the snout, it's rather flat looking especially from the side - maybe more like a wart hog's nose than a bulls'.

2 things --

1) for some reason i think he'd look right in a zelda game. i'm thinking of ganon i guess..?

2) the last update makes him look... umm... rather well-endowed :surprised the tail.. between the legs... ...................

... well he is a bull, i guess...............

Teyon
06-23-2003, 12:11 PM
LOL @ DrakeX. I guess he's just a bull of a man.

It's coming along really well, bud. Keep going!

agreenster
06-23-2003, 05:52 PM
I guess my biggest concern is that his overall bulkiness doesnt carry over from 2D to 3D. I think the biggest thing is that his head sits atop his shoulders in your model (like a man), where the drawing indicates he is a very hunched, 'head lower than shoulders,' hulking creature.

In the drawing, his shoulders hang and droop because of his arm and chest size, where in the model he doesnt seem to be affected by gravity.

Its harder to force a character into its neutral pose by using deformers rather than modeling it from the git-go.

Hellwolve
06-23-2003, 05:59 PM
I agree with agreenster here. It's a great model, don't get me wrong, but it's not much like the concept.

Update on the armor,

http://www.omissbrown.com/baron/Mini/armor1.gif

agreenster As far as the hunch goes, I think i am going to be able to acheive the hunch in animation. But i have actually talked to the artist himself and he loves it so far. So i have decided to keep going with it.

You know what... my personal opinion is that it's a GREAT work, truly... but you need a bit of balancing here
See, it looks a bit cartoonish, doesn't look 'serious' and actually SCARY like the Blizzard one or similar minotaurs (been an RPG gamer and seen lots of pictures, still have a nice collection)

I think you should make it less 'carebear' and more scary, yeah, more believable, more taurish :o)

And, man, i can't wait for that armor to shine and that skin to get some fur! :o)

Ok guys a little update, the texture on his skin is NOT!!! What it is going to look like that is just the base of it. update on the hair and horns and shoulder armor. My question is to Avatar do you want to keep the shoulder armor leather or make it metal like i have it? and the shirt is not going to look like that either i am just testing out the trim material. making sure it bumps right...........................lots more to come

Overall a pretty nice model, I like what you're doing with the hair.

The lower forearms need some work, make the curvature after the elbow less extreme, as well, the wrist should taper in more.

looking good, a few things:

> the horns look a bit odd. the texture just looks like noise, and now i notice that they seem far too short compared to the original drawing. also you need those little metal caps on them :)

> his face is starting to look less bullish and more like a man. i personally am not sure how you'd fix that tho..

> everything ATM looks a bit too perfect, by that i mean the hair stops along a sharp edge, the metal look pretty new etc. but i'm sure this'll all get fixed :)

keep working! :wip: i know it'll look amazing when you're done.
