I am learning Maya. I have my character and other objects placed perperly. I am not planning to have any background scene for this clip. What I am trying to reach is the effect similar to the ones in Telus commercial where little animals run across the white screen, with white floor and white sky...the only thing we see beside the animal is their shadows on the ground.

Now I have my animal, but how should I set up the floor? I make a NURBS Plane, and place it under the animal's feet, but when I render, the light shines on the plane and makes the edge of the plane very clear to see...should I expend the size of the plan, I then see the edge between the white background and the huge white floor. What's the proper way when you guys setup a demo scene with a character standing in the middle of the screen and only shadow of the character is shown on the floor; no any other things.

I normally setup three SPOT lights, two infront of the character, one from behind. But do you experts have any better suggestion about lighting up a basic displaying scene and better setup of lights? What kind of light, and how the intensity should be adjusted? Thank you~I come back here everyday to check!!

well where ur huge plane meets the bakgrnd...its called the "horizon", i dont think its really a problem here, since plane n bgnd can be of the same color. another thing u cud do is place ur camera high up lookin down upon ur character, so the horizon is absent in ur cam frame.

To showcase models there are two techniques u can go in for, one is the standard three point studio lighting technique or u can go in for Global Illumination. various tutorials are available, jus do a forum search, youll find plenty of threads on the techs mentioned above.
