Eh..yeah, not to be a detractor but after "Space Jam" I really could care less about modern WB bastardizations of classic characters. I'll just get the box set DVD and watch the OLD stuff again. :hmm:

And there isn't a small chance that this one is better?
:p
Anyway, it seems fun to me.

Well, it's being directed by Joe Dante so it has the potential of being good with his sometimes quirky humor.

Is it just me or is the animated thug charater cell shaded 3d? Or maybe it's just over rendered 2d....
Anyway, the animation looks awful with too many gradients. It's as though the people making this never watched the old loonytoons.

Joe Dante? The gifted director who brought us the stellar Small Soldiers?
Crap, the Warner franchise is dead, move along.
Nothing to see here.

Yeah I may just be being a grumpy old man about it, but it doesn't have the flavor IMO.
And as mentioned, even with optical compositing(!), Roger Rabbit looked better. Especially with just recently getting the DVD and seeing again in detail people who really really cared about and respected the original stuff, it's hard to get all excited about it. If I want to see modern animation that's like the classics, I'll go to a Pixar flick. You can see and feel the care there.
I'll go curmudgeon about it elsewhere tho. Who knows, it could be amazing. :p

well i cant say that im thrilled in the way they are bringing looney toons back. if they are trying to pulla roger rabbit outta the hat, then they've failed already.
i just cant see any other reason besides milking a franchise thats been done n gone for sometime now.
all the saturday morning cartoons - i love em. this. not anywhere nere those, in terms of classic pranks n jokes... i mean the box falling on coyote, ummm yeh... seen it, it was better in the saturday morning cartoon while i was just waking up, not when i goto the theatres :/
best of luck to them with the film though - i'd hate to see the bugs bunney name go down as one of the worste films to see this year (or whenever its bein rls'd)
/me sigh

I help you hoping. Bugs Bunny is still one of my favorite characters. It would be a shame that he'd be associated with an bad movie.
(Yes, I did fail to grow up ;) )

Well, Roger rabbit was done way old school. Hand painted cells and optical compositing. When it came out on DVD I actually commented (positively) on the way they shaded the characters. I liked the way it looked better than this movie. But I still got excited when I first saw this trailor.
(I totally forgot about Space Jam, figured this hadn't been done since Roger Rabbit) Never did see Space Jam anyway.
Cant wait to see this movie.

You all are jumping the gun again ;) Seen the same thing with the Hulk threads, I mean there's a few secs of cartoony animation and you guys are already speculating and tearing a strip off it, I'm sure WB knows they have alot to live up to with their classics, I've probably seen all the looney tunes episodes dating back from god knows when, 10 times over, but I'll leave judgments until I *actually* see the film, makes sense yah?

the only chance this has of being a god film though is seriously if they have a great story (chances of that probably slim) I mean space jam was horrible, in every single aspect, there was nothing good whatsoever. But my main concern, is why does it have to be lie action and cartoons, why can't they do it al cartoon? I'm not even a huge fan of them doing a bugs bunny movie nowadays let alone a live action roger rabbit wannabe. I mean why do that classic characters have to keep starring.
Look at this way, when an actor dies does he still start in 20 movies after? no, actors have a limited span, and eventually the curtain should close, I have no problem with disney and warners still using mickey and bugs as spokesmodels and merchandise, but most of those animators aren't animating or directing anymore, I mean the days of chuck jones, bob clampett, tex avery are all long gone, let thier works rest, I cring when I see a commercial with hanna barbera characters in a convenient store an fred flinstone ends up standing nude, or mickey mouse on his tv show playing video game consoles.
I tend to be opposed to disneys recent animation sequels, but at least the sequels keep the characters under the same premise. What ever happened to original ideas? Oh yeah, pixar's got them all

Well look at Disney, they cant even do that anymore, granted they can, but thats not what the mass poplas is looking for as of now. Not everybody out their is an animator at heart, or will jump up and say "I really want to watch a cartoon right now" Our generation grew up on the toons, this generation is growing up on video games and a wanning toon industry.
Personally i love the live action/toon effect. Cartoonnetwork has done a great job for some little shorts, i just dont like to see my loony toonies in that environment.
And i second about Pixar, long live Pixar.

My favorite part of the trailer is when Bugs tells the audience "Now that's funny".
Hopefully this happens throughout the film, otherwise I'll probably not know when I'm supposed to laugh.
If you like the classic Warner animation, check out June Bugs (which has been moved to Boomerang this year, unfortunatly).

I really hate seeing every live-action/toon/muppet incarnation (and some fully animated movies) with the same plot line: the toon characters are here to fight evil/save the world/the ever-faithful do-gooders. Take Goofy, Rocky and Bullwinkle, all the Muppets adventures, Kingdom Hearts (video game)... and you would probably feel as if you've already seen the same movie with different characters. In fact, the only reason I see to even consider watching this lame duck is to see the actual hijinks and practical jokes made by this specific cast, and if they aren't funny, then you've wasted about $7. I think I'll hold off until it's out at the dollar theater... that way it's even cheaper than renting it at Blockbuster.
(Funny, I always seem to see Brendan Fraser at the dollar theater.... :p )

Space Jam meets The Mummy! Oh boy, here we go... I think it is too soon to tell if it's going to be good or not.
But I think we would have wanted to see this more back when Roger Rabbit or Space Jam were out. You know, back when this sort of clashing between live action and Toons was NEW? (Humm, actually it dates back to before that.)
It's like the new Freddy VS Jason movie coming out. This would have worked back in the 80's when the curiosity and intrigue was there, but NOW who cares.
But I guess Hollywood has nothing better to do than bring the same damn thing to us over and over again. It makes money, right? Then keep doing it even if it is repetitive. (Lucas) Hey did you guys know there was a Terminator III movie coming out?
I'll pass...
Just my 2 cents. ;)

Good point you make here. Luckily for the makers, it still does make money. And just to inform you: I will go see Terminator 3. From what I've seen, it's gonna be a good action flick

well in all fairness, how is that different from the matrix, or terminator, or xmen, the list goes on and on.
Oh and when space jam did it, it wasn't new, space jam was way after RR, the other film around the sme time (just after RR) was cool world or whatever it was called with Brad pitt, and Holly their blonde incarnation of jessica rabbit, man was that a horrible film.

I don't want to come negative or anything, and as lildragon pointed out earlier, we should at least wait till we see it before judging it. However, after seeing that clip, I have no desire to see that film whatsoever. It feels like WB is taking a cheap stab at cashing in with old characters (again). It felt like a sequel to "who framed roger rabbit?" with the whole "taking over the world" bit. But it really does no come out strong. In previews for movies, the audience sees the best/catchy scenes. This preview had nothing. They are recycling gold and producing nothing more than cheap metal.

Ahh yes, but Fleischers work and Disney's ealry work were of a different genre, I mean yeah disney did it for Mary Poppins too, and in the Reluctant dragon, and many shorts, but never was it done as a complete integration, characters fully interact with everything, its a complete feature film where the two main characters are a toon and a human. The idea of compositing cartoons into the real world is as old as animation practically, Roger rabbit was taking it in a new direction and to a new level, and has yet to be matched.

Reminds me a lot of the trailer for League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. And by that i mean it looks like crap. Another old franchise that should be left alone. Hopefully the kids like it, and aren't as annoyed by Brendan Fraser as everybody i know is.

Hiya.
Well, there's a decent chance I'll go see it. The one thing that bugs me, ;) , is that damn "computer cel shading". If this was a "new thing" with "toon-esque" characters, fine. But making it looney toons, and then slapping in a couple of lines of code for the renderer....bleaaa. When I see that kind of "toon shading" I instantly think Huh. Mass produced for a quick buck. Maybe it's just me. *shrug*
At any rate, here's hoping that WB put at least some effort into the story and "subtle adult jokes" (the ones that old kids get, and young ones don't).

Quite honestly I believe only animation people like us view its as a medium to carry serious story lines. The regular theater going public hear animation and immediately associate with "kid's stuff". So as far as asking for a story line/content that would loose the kids along the way, I don't think that would be possible. I know I'm biased about this myself. I look at the trailer and saw a lack of courage to really give the characters some "umph!" as far as presence on the screen. Then again it was little over a minute of cut up scenes put together. I'll wait til it at least hits the critics until I consider anything.
Kenn
p.s. The same "shmoe" that thinks animation is for kids doesn't even realize that the LOTR series, Matrix series, and the recent SW prequels in all honesty are photo-realistic animation movies with live actors matted in...the opposite of this!

I know a bit about the animation
part of the movie... I interviewed
an animator from Digital Domian
the other day, and he was talking a
bit about it.
Digital Domain is doing the 3D characters.
He said that it isn't really going to be a
sequel to the first, but more so just
another movie. He didn't say much more
about it...
BTW, I did the interview for the new 3D website
elementi motus. ( http://www.elementi-motus.com )
Anyways, thats what I know about it. :)

Ok my fine amigos. Let me put it like this. When I was younger I loved seeing those good ol' fashioned fun movies. Moves nowadays are great, but just not fun to go see like the comedies or cartoonie things. I'm looking forward to this because it will just be fun to see, not something to drill your brain but not something super stupid either.
