Kusama in live-action 'Flux' for Par
March 18, 2003

"Girlfight" helmer Karyn Kusama is in final negotiations to direct Paramount Pictures/MTV Films' "Aeon Flux," a live-action feature based on the 1995 animated MTV Networks series of the same name that Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla also is producing. Written by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay ("crazy/beautiful"), the project is described as a stylish, fast-paced, female-driven action thriller set in a future where a top agent at an underground organization takes on a secret mission. Peter Cheung created the original series, whose feature film version will be produced by Hurd and MTV's David Gale. Valhalla executive Barbara Boyle and MTV exec Michael Cole are overseeing. Kusama is repped by WMA. (Zorianna Kit)

OK, so this is sort of old news apparently. However, it hasn't been posted here yet, so I figured, what the hell? I was reading an article about the Animatrix in the latest edition of Computer Graphics World Magazine, and came accross a blurb in one of the paragraphs about Peter Chung's series being made into a live-action film. You can find the article here:

The Matrix: Anime-ted* (http://cgw.pennnet.com/Articles/Article_Display.cfm?Section=Articles&Subsection=Display&ARTICLE_ID=177387)

*note: The blurb is in the 3rd paragraph under the heading "3D Anime"

Here's a link to the original article from the Hollywood Reporter:

Very interesting..wonder what the casting will be like..no idea how they'll get his style in live action though..maybe they'll shoot it in anamorphic and project it flat to get the proper look? :D I do hope it's as ultraviolent and freaky as the original.

ila: "Reign" was running here on cartoon network late night, I think it had an 'ending', as much as I could figure out..I need to get the DVDs to try and figure it out without a weird translation and editing though, so far I think only vol. 1 is out..very interesting but bizarre series. The background designs were really amazing though..love that hybrid sorta 70's Moebius look and use of color..was cool to see more of it in Matriculated.

CHARLIZE THERON?!

I don't know about this. I hold off until I see some sort of trailer. I think this movie would have been great as a CG flick.

The ONLY thing that I remember liking about Aeon Flux was the art style... If they're making it into a live action film, they lose that... I don't really know what they're going for in this case...

I have Reign on dvd. I wasn't able to watch through though. The character designs just didn't do it for me. Odd, 'cause i liked Aeon Flux. It may have been due those weird midget guys...%$@#ing creepy! I'll try to watch it again someday.

And yes, a live action movie would be interesting to say the least. Couldn't be that bad...

I realy don't know what to think of this. I mean, Aeon Flux never realy had a consistant thing going for it. (Assides from the lead getting Killed every episode.) The Episodes where more of Sci-fi Spy shorts. Heck the lead character did'nt even talk till the later episodes. And I'll realy start to worry if they decide to make it live action.

The styalistic art style was one of the things that truely made the series unique.

I want to see more of it though. I'm curious to know what there going to do with it.

Here's to praying that It will be animated
