View Full Version : Maya error message, need help!
Dave Hackett 04-27-2002, 11:09 AM When I try to start Maya, for some reason the splash screen comes up and the it goes through all the ususal loading crap and then collapses and I get this script editor window that comes up with these two messages in it.
//Error: Object's name is not unique: Shelfa01700//
//Error:Could not create command port ://
What does this mean and how do I fix it? I'm dead in the water here!!!

if you have to reinstall maya do not forget to delete the maya folder under the :\documents and settings\admin\maya4..etc
if you just uninstall and reinstall it wont work.

I've uninstalled and re-installed it and deleted the folder. No good. I hate crap like this!

one other idea ,
were you sing a model you modelled before and used a mel script which is not currently installed , or a shelf which was there before but you deleted afterwards?
sometimes thats the case.
otherwise deleting the preferences folder takes care of everything , there are no exceptions.

on your desktop > My documents > Maya
delete that maya folder and reinstall.
when you uninstall maya it doesnt touch that folder , you have to delete it to make a brand new install.
hope that helps

yeah..when all else fails..delete preferences ;)
I was going to suggest that maybe if you werent on 2k that you had spaces in your program files path..that was a problem for a few people i know..blah blah..but of course..that is of no consequence now that the problem is solved ;)
