View Full Version : Domain Names
oceanmovieclip 10-02-2008, 04:22 PM ;)Hi there.
Domain Names
For those who have one, or more.
Um, probably this thread is best helpful for those who live in England, UK in general I guess.
.org.uk (2 years) £5.18
.com (2 years) £15.98
.eu (1 year) £7.99
.co.uk (2 years) £5.18
.org (1 year) £7.99
.me.uk (2 years) £5.18
Here are some domain extensions.
Which domain names end up sending you an invoice or something? This question really goes to anyone in general.
Like .com doesn't but .co.uk will send one saying to re-use this domain you must pay a total of whatever amount which isn't what you paid for the first time round.

Just use a company which automatically renews them for you?

Thats only an option for using a card indefinately you could say.
If its a one payment off, and at the same time you'd have to wait until like a .co.uk domain would expire after receiving the invoice.

I'm really confused.
What is the point of this thread?
Are you asking how to register a domain, offering a service or what?
Personally, I use 1 and 1 for domains and Dataflame for hosting. 1and1's .co.uk domains are £2.99 but are currently 99p for the first year, the .com ones are £8.99...I get an invoice whenever the domain is up for renewal and it's paid automatically or I get a message to update the details...simple.

But that is because you've got a .co.uk? As I said in my first post you get one with that but .com? or .org or .me.uk

i register mine at 123-reg for the usual 6 quid. then in 2 years when you get a letter saying you need to pay an exorbatent fee to renew just ignore it and buy it again when it expires for that same 6 quid.

I've got several domains, co.uk, .com and .net, I get invoices and renewals whenever they need it, no matter what the domain's extension.

Going back to this, do you think people in general should stick to what the extensions stand for? .com is for business sites, yet some people could buy a .me.uk for a personal site?

Some are officially reserved (.gov, .edu, etc.), other than that its just a nice identifier for the users. This might be of interest to you:

This has nothing to do with CG. Leigh, close this thread down. How dare you sir provide us or ask us "CG people" with non related CG information...Ugh, the nerve....

I agree, that was pretty odd. Not like this is the "Technical and Hardware" section.

Seriously, why give out info or pick the brains of those around us with non-sense questions like this and asking for hardware advice like lets say on wireless cards....

i would like to see a forum category for "related software & services", where threads about domain name registrars could go.
Related software - Adobe Flash, & Adobe Flex builder.
Flash is a good program for 2D animation &
==> has good features relative to protecting IP (intellectual property). <==
muy importante.
Flash is also integrating more and more 3D capabilities. in one or 2 releases, it may become logical to have a 'Flash' program category in the content creation area.
one example of a Flash-3D fusion -

Flex builder is an industrial strength XML editor. if you wanted a database to store a few thousand renderings, and to serve them up to someone on the client side, Flex is worth learning.
Domain names are relevant to CG because it's just part of doing business.
I used to recommend Domain Direct but - hopefully this is on topic, for this thread -
their customer service is not what it was & (HELP !)
==> i really would like to find a domain registrar that is robust, trustworthy, etc. <==
