View Full Version : Cinematic Game Icons - character - AJ_23
Well, it's time I joined another challenge only to never finish my entry (woo!)... :surprised
Okay, this is the current 'plot' for my game. (Adventure type based thingy sort of).
It's 1955... a chain of fastfood outlets caled 'McDonalds' have started to spring up across America. Devices that use 'micro-waves' to cook food in minutes rather than hours go on sale. A themepark called 'Disneyland' opens to the public. Eisenhower takes part in the first televised press conference. It's an exciting time for consumerism and technology, men potter away in barns and basements across middle America, each hoping to create something new for the world to keep in their homes.
One such basement sits below Timothy Buck's bedroom. As he swings his feet out of bed he realises something, there's no sound coming from that basement. In all of his (10) years, he's always woken to the sound of his father's inventing, but today - nothing?
Anyway - before I write too much, it develops that Tim is (seemingly) on his own, in the most major sense. Everyone has disappeared! So taking one of his fathers inventions (a robot called Porble) he ventures out into the wilderness of America to discover what has happened to the population...
Here's my first couple of doodles:

More to come (hopefully!)

awesome idea !!! :D :buttrock:
the only problem i see is that someone who just looks at your character will not be able to figure out the story behind it.. maybe you should also think of a scene that makes it more obvious ?

Yay! It's AJ_23! I'll just withdraw my entry now, and save the pains of failure!
*SIGH*
Hehe. So glad you joined this time. Nice concept. I'd buy that game.
Best of luck, man, I've always enjoyed your participation.

superduperli idea! great little robot to, I imagine his little head can pop out of that body straight up, maybe when he talks? could be hilarious when he speaks fast! :)
the boy needs more attention/orginality though, I think! but I'm sure we'll see something cool here soon :)
btw, whats those 2 holes for, those at the robot I mean? :)
Thanks for the feedback guys!
fist : You are absolutely right, I will definitely need to create an environment (or two) so that the concept can come across more clearly. I didn't want to put 'characters/environment in my thread title simply because I ususally don't finish one aspect of my entries let alone two! However, if I find the time to put both characters a proper scene - I'll do it! :D
3DZealot : I certainly don't deserve that! You should have posted"It's AJ_23! I'll continue with my entry and watch as he never updates his ever again!" ;)
fellah : I'm with you on the head popping up and down thing! Sadly little porble will only be able to make one sound, a fairly poor 'beep'... but that beep comes in handy if you've lost him! As for the holes in his front, I have no idea. I just put them on, don't even know if the finished guy will have them  . And youre completely right about the boy, he's generic and uninteresting. I'm kind of hoping that the character/style will come about as I model him, but we'll have to see if that works. Which it probably won't. (Bugger).
Here's a the first polys in place, a little mock up of Porble to see if he works in 3D. Everything texture wise is over the top (reflection/bump...etc) so please ignore.

and a little test to see if I can get any character out of him...

hahaha!
Love the little guy! You always come out with funny concepts and ideas. What I want to see though is a finished image like you did for the enchanted forest one. Though your SUPER SPOON was pretty damn amazing also!:D , keep the updates coming

that's really a cool character, my type! ... may more bolts here & there, & a rusty texture (now it has rusty bump)...aha, a third wheel? ... no need?

haha... i love it....
It looks like the two hemispheres of his body could open up sideways to reveal the inner mechanisms (or perhaps a secret weapon , or maybe just a nicely warmed TV dinner)

That's great man. So simple yet so... you know. I liked the 2D sketch then I scrolled down and there it was. This guy needs to be in a short not a game. not to say he wouldn't be good to play:D

I certainly hope that this lack of updates does'nt mean AJ has decided to eat an entire bag of oreos then pass out on the couch gurgling.
If that is the case, AJ_23, this had better be the last time.
Even I worked on my entry tonight...though I did the oreo thing too...perhaps's I've said too much...
THE PEOPLE DEMAND UPDATES!!!
